Sure if you know how to use it. But can make for some ugly welds on tubing if you are not verry good.

A buddy of mine used that same one to do a SOA and install a cage in his ZUki, then used it on my rear bumper/tire carrier. So it will work for your applications, it'll just take time to get use to it.

do you know how to stick weld? that will be the dicisive factor. 225 is PLENTY hot for anything you will be doing on your rig.

If you never have welded before I would recomened buying a wire feed welder.......ANYBODY can run a wire feed

If you want a stick welder all you have to do is practice with it for a while before you start building things:D ........and yes this machine will do any thing you want

Before you invest in a welder take a course in welding or find someone who has a welder (or mulitple ppl with different kinds) try them out, get a feel for it.

Me I love my 240 amp old school sears robuck and comp welder. Got it off the board for $100. It has paid for it self about a BAGILLION times.

I preffer stick, for some reason i just dont like mig... go figure

That machine is more than enough. It's all I use.
For a new welder I dought you will be able to weld tube or any other light gage material.:(

Stick is a much more "honest" welder than mig. By that I mean if you lay two decent looking beads, one with each welder, with little experience, then my money would be on the stick weld being stronger.
225 amps- no, that's not nearly enough. :flipoff2: You can rough cut 1/4" plate with 225 amps if you're patient.
I suppose it's not hard to guess what type of welder built my Jeep.

Stick ---considerably more versitile...

Mig-- Muey Bonito welds...

Stick will get there if you learn how to weld... Mig will get you there if you don't want to learn how to weld...

OLD SCHOOL Stick means lots of practise and technique = awesome welds on everything from sheet metal to 1 inch ship plate... Preety welds take lots more skill but the pentration is there..

NEW SCHOOL mig make very preety welds the trick is to make them work... penetration ......penetration.....penetration.....penetration. ...penetration ......penetration.....penetration.....penetration. ...penetration ......penetration.....penetration.....penetration. ...penetration ......penetration.....penetration.....penetration. ...

God,,,,, just call me a pervert....

The reason is.....and you know this...

If you can lay pretty beads with stick, you more than likely know enough to be welding better than just about any average mig welder...

Not to knock mig welding... I have one at work and its wondrous machine, but it is much easier to lay a good looking weld with a wire machine... just like snow boarding is easier than skiing... oh did I interject again... I shouldn't since I do both,,,, but the parallel is the same.
