Borrowed a engine hoist from a buddy, was making what I thought was a simple lift on my junk. Had the hoist hooked to the front of the engine, had 1 good pump with weight on it and BANG!. Bolt falls out the bottom, one of the plungers pops out and the ram freezes in place. Got all my work done using a floor jack. Now, I need to fix this thing. How? I sure as hell don't want to cobble it back together and I'm not giving it back broken. Help!

edit - After it fell apart, I put plugs in to keep out debris.

Did it strip the threads out of the bottom of the rocker?

Maybe you could helicoil it if that is the case. The bolt may have been a little loose and the force of pumping it under pressure pulled it out.

No. It simply fell out like it wasn't threaded in. Talk about scary.:skull:

I may do that if this is not repairable. Because I'm sure as hell not going to halfass repair this.

Just in case, how do I get a weekly 20% off coupon?

some zilch

No big deal, sounds like the bolt was loose and it just came apart when you put pressure on one of the pistons. Ram didn't leak down so you know the check balls are seating correctly. Doesn't look like anything was bent or damaged so just open release valve, relieve all load and pressure, put pump piston assy back together, refill with jack oil and purge air out. (Put a dab of Vaseline or Parker-O-lube on the piston O-rings during reassembly so you don't tear them up when reinserting them into the bores.)

Tell your buddy to check the bolt once in a while because it scared the %$#@! out of you when it let loose. Show buddy what you fixed and demo it's in working condition again. Say Thank You to buddy and have a great day.
