IF the rear drive is disengaged it seems that a detroit would allow the non-braked wheel to rotate. Who has this set up, and how does it work for them??? Thanks

i run a rear detroit and i have a line lock that locks both rear wheels and it still cut just fine.

I use a detroit with a pinion brake. Both rear wheels lock, there is no ratchet effect with this set-up. Works great.

I will be doing this shortly. I talked with Mike Shaffer about this exact subject at the Sept ERoCC finals. As long as you have a twin stick setup and can dis-engage the rear output it will work exactly like you expect. I am going to use a dual level CNC cutting/turning brake valve... Check out the VW magazines.. roughly $75.00.

should be fine. Detroits take torque to engage

I am running a Detroit rear w/ the said above CNC cutting brakes. It works fine! You must be able to disengage the rear output of the t-case to get torque off the rear axle. The Detroit locks when power is applied. Rocky

Come on. Don't make me go looking for a VW mag ...
Anyone have a web link?

If you don't have this catalog, get it!

BTW, I use a staging brake like those used in drag cars. It interrupts the brake line, has no reservoir and only works one way.

Here is one (http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1189) but they want $100 for it.

Search google for CNC Turning brakes or sandrail parts, etc... You find loads of online VW sandrail sites. CNC and Jamar both make manual valves. I am going to use the 2 handle CNC valve.

Now there is a name I haven't seen since I left the "bug scene". Their heads were cool.
