I am going to a new motor, and it will be putting out considerably more HP's. So I will need to upgrade my C4, the motor will be in the 450-500 hp range. My c4 now is pretty stock, just red eagle clutches and kolene steels, and kevlar bands, with a TCI reverse manual valve body and a billet intermediate servo cover and servo. What else could be done to keep it alive??

Deep pan,oiling/pressure mods.input shaft, fwd drum,added/upgraded clutches/bands is all I have done and works pretty well. Been solid for all season. Need a good torque converter as well. HTH

Get rid of the kevlar bands. Kevlar has a poor coefficient of friction so they will slip more than even a stock band sort of contradicting your "grabby" red eagle clutches. Only advantage kevlar has is high heat tolerance, but if you do not build excessive heat then that is a moot point.

I have a deeper pan already, I plan on doing alot of desert racing in the near future:D

If you are pushing that much HP and are going to race in the desert, I would seriously consider going to a C6.

No room, its in a pretty small buggy that was built with the 302/C4 combo I have the "shorty" adapter too. I think the C4's can be built up pretty well though:mr-t:

Copy that, thought it would be cheaper for you to go with a C6. Sounds like you are stuck with the C4. These guys can build you a tranny or just sell you some trick parts.

Ill be going with Performance Automatic in my 408 power Mustang. They build a 1000hp capable C4, and back it with a lifetime warranty. You may want to look into them. www.performanceautomatic.com

yep x2... i use pa stuff in my builds, based on what u have now, toss a planet kit and a input shaft in it, and keep on wheelin, with those adds to your combo, the trans should be good to 700 or so....

and keep the kevlar bands, red band wears to fast for your app...

You need to back that statement up...

I've seen C4 stand behind 650-800 HP for a few years.
C6's just suck power...

Let me start by saying I am no expert. Yes the C4 can be built up to handle high HP numbers. I brought up the C6 because the OP said he would be doing some desert racing. Desert racing is all about durability. Desert racing puts very high shock loads on the drive line. Yes a C6 uses more horsepower, but the C6 has a stronger case than the C4. It also has stronger planetaries, servos and other parts. I would give up the additional 25 HP the C6 uses over C4 for the added durability. In this case a C6 will not fit into the application, so I guess it really doesn't matter anymore.
