Ok heres the deal. I am about too purchase a 1989 Ford F150 with a freshly rebuilt 302 with 351 heads. it has a 5 speed manual tranny not sure what kind. If you have any ideas thatd be great. It has a 4 inch suspension lift and a 3 inch body lift. I have a question on the hubs on the front. Are they just held on there by the lug nuts on the rim? or how does that work? its a weird looking set up and I heard they are pretty weak. Plans are a 36 to 38 inch Tsl or bogger. Any ways to make this a reliable mud truck would be great. Thanks!

For your reference a 1989 F150 will have:
Speed Density EFI 302 (5.0L)
M5OD transmission
BW1356 Tcase
Ford 8.8" rear axle
Dana 44 TTB front axle
Hubs should have allen head screws holding them in, they are not held on by the lug nuts. The TTB (Twin Traction Beam) front end is not the best and if you are looking to build a mud truck I would consider swapping it. I wouldn't run over a 35" tire on that axle if you want it to last.

ok. it just looked like a weird setup. but I guess I will just drop the body lift and run 35's. Thanks a bunch!

My guess would be, it's not a 89, it's an 88, with the stupid hat style hubs... yeah the lug nuts hold them on, just like a ranger has.. junk them, and get everthing from the spindle out from a another half ton truck thats NOT an 88 or late 87
Then, if it was me.. I'd toss a set of leveling coils under, a lockright up front, and a 9" with a spool int he back, bold on some Q78 swampers, and be done with it.

Ok so will the leveling coils give me another 2 inches or so? its runnin dual shocks up front behind the coils. and I think I know where a ford dana 44 is that I can rob parts from. THanks for the info!
