OK, I've heard two theories.... 1)weld the plate to the frame 2)just bolt the plate between the box and the frame. Personally, I'm leaning toward welding it on but thought I'd get a quick consensus before I strike the arc. What did you do?

Welding the plate on would be best, ,but the biggest problem I had was the metal sleeves collapsing inside the frame. I inserted a steel block inside the frame rail, then plated the outside.

I guess it depends on how big of tire you have, what type of locker and how hard you wheel as to the extent of reinforcement. Alot of people are happy with the "straight steer" brace that's out on the market. Didn't work for me with 35 tsl's, ,a Power=lok and an abusive driving style. I finally had to go with full hydraulic steering with 39.5's and a Detroit. It works great now! Good luck with your repair...

Thanks, but it's not a repair..... it's preventative beefing:flipoff2: 36" SX's and an ARB. It will probably also get some sort of homebrew brace between the frame rails too, although I doubt it will be 3x4 6061-T6 I beam (don't have access to anything like that or the equipment to weld it). I'll have to make do with good old steel.....:D

I welded 3/16" plate on the outside of the frame. The plate will also help prevent crushing the sleeves.

I bolted mine following the Weed site with a thick piece of scarp I had laying around and it has worked fine so far with 35's and 37's.....mine was preventive as well. Lockright in the front, boosted power steering and working on pretzeling draglink number four. :shaking: No straight steer brace.

First two were stock tie rods. Third was a thicker rod...1 1/2"now I am have a 2" heavy duty rod tapped for 3/4 inch heims. Not sure what exactly its made of but its held up the best so far...but it has a slight bend in it already. Looking to go with chrome moly or the like later on... :D
