I currently have a 77 low pinion Dana 60front with the large c's and kingpin style. The axle also came along with a POWER lok diff that seems to be in great shape. The only problem with the axle is that the housing at some point was cracked and repaired. I thought I could turn the c's and be happy with it but now I have a chance to get a HP ball joint housing that has all the parts to it inlucding discs, hubs, calipers and axles. Do you think the newer axles can fit in between the C's and Knuckles without to much headaches? This axle will be going into a EB with Cage SAS arms.
Let me know your opinions. I want to use the power lok. I want both good street and offroad manners. Let me know if it's worth the trouble or not. I can also just keep the ball joint style axle and use. Not sure how much a 77 Low pinion would go for if I tried to sell. I am using the matching Dana 60 rear. I think I need the HP due to the 5.5 lift and clocked transfer case I have.

i'm not sure if i got all that right but here goes.
what you want is the high pinion center , tubes and inner axleshafts. then put the king pin knuckles (if they are closed knuckles disregard), stub shafts, spindles, knuckles, brakes etc. turn as needed. that's if you are going full width. measure the tube OD to make sure they didn't change it.

Just swap the whole Ball Joint housing in, if it has the right spring perch housing.
I would not waste time with a power lock. While they are one of the better Limited slip (grip?) units, they are not a locker.

My hope is just to swap the housing. But 77 has the crappy 30inner spline and the even crappier 19 spline external outers. I want to be able to swap all the ball joint stuff to the Kingpin stuff except the Knuckle of course. I want the balljoint hub and brakes and the better axles. Is this do-able.

You cant mount Kingpin knuckles on a BJ axle housing. The only way I could see it working is if you swapped the outer Cs from the '77 as well.

I say just toss the low pinion 60...pull an inner shaft from each the BJ axle should be much bigger, if you want a powerloc for the BJ axle they are not too much $$$
is the 77 LP an open or closed Knuckle?
seems like alot of work just for a p-Loc?
whatever you choose good luck and keep it safe

I have the power lok just need to change the side gears for 35 spline.
I will change the c's and turn them a little. Then re-install the knuckle and spindle and disc bracket. We will see how it goes.

Good luck. Keep in mind the shaft lengths and all changed throughout the years too...not sure if the knuckles are the same depth either. Just other things to consider. Hope it all works out!

I have the same 77 axle and i bought all the outer hubs and whatnot to convert it to a bigger 35 inner and 30outer axle and the brake brackets and knuckles have to be machined out to fit the bigger u-joints and spindels.. i also cracked a 79 knuckle and tryed to swap the 77 in and i didnt fit all the above.
