not too up to speed on when ford switched to front discs, but if that has drums, it is a boat anchor.

That axle has drums (well at least the axle I have in my barn which came from the same truck does). Don't bother with it.

thanks for the info guys i found a 14 bolt for the rear with disc brakes so i will start looking for a d60 for the front with disc brakes. i think i am deep with this 460 swap thing

Likely what you are thinking is a 60 hub is merely the large diameter external type lockout hub D44. 73 would have low pinion and drum brakes. There are better axles out there to use, so it's biggest value might be just as a parts source, then scrap the rest (I might be interested in the shafts if it is an open knuckle axle)

it is a closed knuckel axel.

Yeah, it's very common axle.

Also, the Dana 60 front didn't come out until 74, so those are HD Dana 44 "outers" :p

I run a hd with disks...the drum axles actually have bigger u-joints...but I dont think anyone makes an aftermarket...

its ok other than the drums....might be able to swap it to disks..

yeah they make a set of disc for this axel. my brother is a great welder he said we could put 3' cromoly tubes over the axel tube allready there if i was worried about the stock size tubes. it would cost as much as finding a d60 with disc brakes, just so i would fill safe running it
