: TH 700R4 wondering
Rytari 09-06-2009, 07:27 PM ok... just plain and simple questions i want to find some answers that i didnt really find yet...
i have 700r4 in my blazer... how to tell it "i want you to stay in first gear" not to change 2:nd always cause sometimes its too much.. or i dont got the power.. i just wanted it to stay at 1st gear.. how to do it. i have transgo shiftkit, 10 vane pump .500 tv valve and "corvette" servo in it,and a hd converter but rest of it is stock.
also 2nd problem... at full acc 2-3 change takes some time and theres a time when i dont have either gear in and rpm will go up like in neutral.. only for a second or so... i think its not slipping... some valve stiking or?

You put the shifter in "1".
Is your fluid level correct? Check it when the trans is hot, in park, engine running.
Rytari 09-07-2009, 04:08 AM i think its nothing to do with fluil level or so... i hope.. but level is ok, for some reason it chages to 2nd when rpm goes up...

are you sure its not in 3rd and kick down to 2nd with the higher rpms

The 700r4 will should in first all by itself..re-check your hard linkage to be sure when you select first, it is actually in first..
...as to the shifting issues,
you need to check the throttle valve cable adjustment...it's the little
cable on the throttle linkage right under the throttle to pedal cable
which runs back into the firewall....the "TV" cable runs back down to the
valve body of the tranny and it controls the fluid pressures/shift points
of the 700r4...it is meant to function based off of the amount of throttle
being applied for up-shifts/kick-down.
...also, if the throttle valve itself is stuck or malfunctioning, you'll get the same problems..(you'll have to go into the tranny to check this).
.anyway, if out of adjustment, the TV cable can cause
several problems from weird shifting to no shifting, and worst case,
complete tranny melt down....(due to low fluid pressure and subsequent HEAT)
Hope this helps!

it seems that im missing that one.. i have ony this black one in the floor that says B&M... but ist going all the way back and works like it should...
dont get me wrong.. im repeating now myself..
if i place it to D: i have nice and almost smooth gearchanges from 1st all the way 4th.. also lock-up works if i want.
when i change shifter to 3: i got 3 gears, little more harsh changes and so on...
when i change to 2nd i got 2 gears, 1st and after some 5000rpm it kicks 2nd and stays there... also i have engine braking bacause those shift kits modifications in valve body.
and when i got lever to 1st i still got 2 gears, just i dont want it... i got all the same function that i have in 2nd... only if i loos the thortle it will change back to first again... some day i will eventually hit my nose to steeringwheel when this happens... also lack of power in my truck makes this 2nd gear change really bad thing whel trying to get away from sloughy ditch or something what so ever...
i have rebuild this trans myself some 2 years ago but it was same even before i opened it. i had to rebuild it because i broke overrun clutch and some other hard parts in it... i think also this forced 1st to 2nd and back gear change has done not so good and can caused this breakage.
about the tv valve and line.. i wont adjsut it any tighter, changes are enought hard already and after i wont get wot because tv cable is limiting it.. i know soime have been fitting some spring system to tv cable to help in this case but...
again sorry for my lousy english.. its hard to know all the words...
GMGuy 09-07-2009, 03:18 PM Sounds like your getting a governor forced shift--where it'll shift regardless of gear selection if rpm exceeds whatever its set at. Gives you something else to search on.
Alex.
trkklr77 09-07-2009, 05:18 PM sounds like you shifter is not getting all the way into first.
1 make sure that spanky bm shifter will work with the 4sp. if its a true rachet it may not.
2 get under you truck and disconnect the linkage, put shifter all the way into first, put the tranny in first, adjust the shift cable till it reaches, then make sure you can still grab park.
about the tv valve and line.. because tv cable is limiting it..
..
Not good, man....the tv cable should NOT be your throttle stop,
and I suggest it be adjusted to stock spec, not "tighter"

like i wrote, shifter is working like i should... tranny goes all the way to first.. and i have normal floor shifter, not ratchet one... there is also difference in tranny operation when it is in 1st or 2nd.. in 2nd it wont downshift when i loose the throttle like it does in 1st.. but still i got 2 gears when tranny is in 1st.. difficult to explain but...

now its not limiting, but if i adjust it more tighter like somebody wrote up there it will start to do it...
