: for those that need a shaft -
redrangie 09-18-2002, 09:31 AM I just got off the phone with scorpion racing. They have an extreme travel, cv, bolt in front shaft for 225.00 US. I am awaiting the quote for freight, both airport and door to door. That price is for a 3.9 rangie.
Sounds yummy to me!
Six states wants 350.00 by comparison, and you need to re-drill or use an adapter.

DooDoo Brown 09-18-2002, 09:56 AM Yeah they have some cool stuff....I think this is a picture of it.
DooDoo Brown 09-18-2002, 10:00 AM and look at this winch bumper they have for 150 british....nice
But shipping on it would probley be outragous....
PTSchram 09-18-2002, 10:50 AM I knew it would only be a matter of time before somebody came up with a DC driveshaft that would bolt in!
Make sure you take lots of pictures and let us know what you think of it.
As for the shipping, I wouldn't worry too much about that as I order the vast majority of my parts from UK and they come over night, oftentimes for less money than domestic overnight shipping.

redrangie 09-18-2002, 10:55 AM I think I will definitely get it, I just need to verify the old income, (damn commission structures) for this month.
Besides, the color will match my truck! That's real important for those starbucks runs!

RockRover 09-18-2002, 11:00 AM Question is...What is it? Essentially if it's a 1310 (or an equivalent) you will have a marginal shaft at best. Stick with a 1350 and be done with it...
And if you get one you better hope it uses spicer U-joints...Talk about a bieatch if they were some Euro spec uj's!
--D
redrangie 09-18-2002, 11:14 AM That was one of my first questions. The uj's that is. What is your concern on the 1310 over 1350? I usually don't ride on my shaft on obstacles if that is what you mean.
j
RockRover 09-18-2002, 11:40 AM It's not so much about surf-ability, but more of a overall strength issue. Just ask KC's buddy about what happend with his front 1310...I personally haven't wittnessed any 1310 failures, but I've heard of a BUNCH. Increase hp and your level of trails and I'm sure we will see more 1310 failures in the LR circles.
In that picture of the Scorpion Racing shaft, isn't that a T-Case output flange that you see where the normal flange would be?
What's with that. Is it just a pic, or do you need to replace the output flange for it to "bolt up"?

Looks to me like the redrill the flange for a different bolt pattern

I was told direct bolt up. I will clarify when I speak with them about the freight and let everyone know.
PTSchram 09-18-2002, 02:37 PM We may be seeing a bunch of the 1310s failing, but I strongly suspect that this one (the scorpion) is far better than the stockers on the series II Discos.
I wonder how the 1310 compares to the strength of a #344 U-joint that is being stressed by a slight misalignment at either the pinion or the transfer case. It just might be that the reduced strength might be compensated for by the reduction in drivetrain vibrations and the problems that will come from not having the drivetrain in sync.
Either way, it will likely be next spring before I get a chance to get one as I'm just now getting a balanced Roto-flex shaft built-yeah, I know, fawkin' newbie with the rotoflex...
I'll sit back and see what happens to those who are fortunate to get one now.
Peace,
Paul
Yousef ReD90 09-18-2002, 07:08 PM Hey Redrangie, let me know how it turns out. I'm very interested in that shaft plus both of my brothers live in the UK, so that my help. later

I've got this shaft on the front of my project90. nice piece of kit, very well made and well beefy (esp compared to the stock unit!)
not sure what CV it has fitted, but i'll take a look if anyones interested.
indeed it is a straightforward fitment, mine came with a new front output flange, which is just a disco series2 flange (larger diameter) with 4 extra holes drilled in it for the bolts to fit the CV unit (it even came in a LR box!)
the shaft was originally made by Equippe4x4 in Italy, Scorpion racing are just selling their stuff here in the UK (for a silly amount of profit!!) you'd be better off buying direct from equippe themselves. check their website (www.equipe4x4.com i think it is)
shout if you need any more info on it, or more pics/dimensions.
DJ.
J bradley 09-25-2002, 08:07 AM Diesel - what did Equipppe 4x4 charge you for the driveshaft , in sterling or euro or lira or dollars...
Red Rangie - ever get a quote on door to door delivery ?
Thanks...
redrangie 09-25-2002, 09:28 AM No, got an email, but just to clarify what I needed.
Tall, you can use my freight account, and send me a check for it...( I get good rates)
j
J bradley 09-25-2002, 10:07 AM Red - thanks for your very kind offer, I will email you if it comes to that but I doubt it will as I have my UK stuff shipped to Northern Ireland ( right down the street from the Bushmills factory) and have family bring it over in luggage every couple of months... Last year my father checked a "suitcase" for me which was actually the entire new exhaust for a mercedes 250T (which is very long). He cut and welded the pipes into a suitcase shape and put a twine handle on it! That might not get through in these times though. Last year he also took 4 new "exploder" recall tires to N.I. as luggage, again with twine handles. he said there was nothing wrong with the tires and he got 4 for $50 brand new...
i just read what i typed...man i think I might have a problem, but all the money saved goes right back into the cars so maybe not :D
If there isn't a distibutor for Equippe 4x4 in the U.S. one of us just might have a new line of business... now wouldn't that be sweet!
redrangie 10-01-2002, 01:47 PM Well, I think that the person at scorpion had a few too many pints the day he quoted me the pricing on the shaft. The REAL cost of the Equipe shaft is 546.00 us BEFORE freight.
Hence, GBR is shipping mine today at 399, with 1350 joints (doug). Goes on thursday night.
Sorry for the false expectations.

RockRover 10-01-2002, 03:14 PM Great price man...Is that with a modified flange adapter (for the 1350)?
Hmmmmmm. Maybe if Eric at Six States doesn't get off his arse I'll keep the $ in the circle.

He's using a different supplier than he used to. These are made to order, and with the larger joints from a small (one man) shop. I was so Fricking frustrated with this whole shaft thing that didn't ask about the adapter. I assume I will have to make one/redrill.
As a side note, I ordered those brackets today from my bud scooter at avalanche, thanks for the tip.

redrangie 10-04-2002, 05:50 PM Here is a pic of the new shaft.
Bill (gbr) is selling these. They come from a new supplier, and are pretty beefy. The lens cap in the photo is for comparison, and it measures 1 3/4" in diameter.
Only problem is I'm going to have this xmas thing going on now with the color....
