I have my garage I`m finishing before winter and was looking at this stuff at home depot and was wondering what people here thought about
My walls are 2x6 and I was going to do it right and get R-21 fiber not r-19 and scrunch it in there... I was just looking into using this Reflectix too for an increased R-Value.. just not sure it's worth it.

Normally, my response to such things is about the same as late night infomercials...
But I do notice that they go to the trouble of documenting the air space requirements. A lot of these types of products don't bother with that and expect you to believe that their product will reflect heat when it is sandwiched directly between the drywall and insulation (or insulation and exterior sheathing). Sorry, it doesn't work that way...

Yeah, a lot of the stuff I've seen seems like snake oil.
The reviews are not too bad... and with proper air space it seems like the concept would work. I know the things I put over my dash/under windshield in my truck like this make a big difference.. then again they are in direct sunlight too.. Thus the curiosity.

I put the aluminum foil sided rigid insulation between my roof joists spaced an inch down and facing up towards the underside of the roof sheathing, creating an air space above the panels, and then put batt insulation below those panels. But that air space is open to the eave vents and the ridge vent, so the air circulation draws the heat up and out the ridge vent. It is amazing how well that works at keeping the second floor of the shop cool in the summer!
But with a closed air space, I'd think the foil would reflect the radiant heat to the back side of the drywall, heat up the air space, and then the foil would just conduct the heat anyway...

I haven't done the shop yet
But I did stick some Reflectix in my upstairs windows during the day, and it really helps keep the rooms cooler. The area in front of the windows on the floor used to really heat up from direct-sun and now not anymore. I think cardboard could have done this, but the reflectix works.. maybe better. :D since it reflex it.

I WILL put this stuff in my shop.
I was building shopping a few months back and walked in a metal building with and without this stuff, right next to each other. HUGE difference. It's cheap and worth it.
