I have a 76 chevy 4 door truck with a 454 and new T400. I use it to haul my buggy on a 24 foot long triple axle trailer. Anyone else have a lack of power going up hills. I go up steep hills and it always drops to like 30 miles per hour! Feels like it has no power. It's the stock engine with the stock carb and such. Should it be putting out some more power than this? I can travel at 70-75 on flat roads but that is about it.

I have a '77 Crew cab with the 454 and 4 speed. So far I have all the power I need for hills.I did a cam swap with a 270/282 gind. Also put a old factory Holley high rise on it.You should check the timing and maybe do a good tune up.Blazin

Mine is a vortech 454, so is different, but I have no problem climbing Eisenhower and Vail Pass 11000ft + with a 16' trailer and a 6000lb Blazer in tow at 65+ and sky is the limit or 100MPH where the gas is shut off on flat ground. Sounds like you may have the dreaded peanut heads, or are down on power some where else. Have you checked your timing and its advance curve? Or possible that the back barrels of your carb are not opening due to obstruction.
