: Converting 220v plasma to 110v?

I've seen dual voltage plasmas before, but i'm wondering if you can switch a 220v to 110v/115v which isnt advertised to have that feature.

I don't have 200v at the house, its too expensive to convert and I came across a smokin deal on a 220v.

Unless designed for it, that isn't a possibility.

It could be done!!!!:shaking::shaking:

But the cost would be more than buying a brand new 115Volt unit About all you would have left is the case the work lead maybe the torch. the air solenoid.

Are you sure you do not have 230v at your house? This would be unusual, around here 230v is normal residential service because of electric appliances like; well pumps, clothes dryers, stoves, water heater, air conditioning units, and some electric baseboard heaters.

Sorry, I meant that I don't have an available outlet and don't want to spend big bux on getting one made.

I will wire in a 220 outlet for you for a decent price.

Or

I will take your plasma cutter off your hands.

Where is your breaker box located? If it's on the garage wall it would be SUPER easy and CHEAP to wire in a 220v outlet.

Yeah, and I could turn my Chevy into a Ford if I replaced all the sheetmetal... and the frame... and the engine... and, well, all the other stuff... :shaking::shaking:

I agree with the others. A 220V outlet isn't that big of a deal. Or run an extension cord from the dryer outlet. Several posts on here on how to cobble an appropriate cord together to do that.

Was that supposed to be english?

Really though, wiring a 220 outlet will be much easier and cheaper than trying to make a 220 Plasma work on 110. Not to mention the fact that 110 plasmas are pretty weak and only useful on thinner materials, and the fact that having a 220 outlet opens up a lot of possibilities for other "real" tools.

I've got no more than $60-$70 in my 230V extra outlet with the extension cord

Sounds lame but for the first little while I had to unplug my oven and run an extension cord to the welder:laughing:

where there is a will, there is a way.

I'm running a 45 foot extension cord from my drier to my plasma. It cost me $70 bucks to make at OSH. There is some voltage drop and its less then ideal, but it works and I can still cut 3/8 steel without a problem.
