So I've had this tailgate lying around for the past few years and never could let it go. I got a random thought last week to turn it into something usable/different. I've been redoing the one car garage(:mad3:) to make it more project friendly and thought to myself "that'd make a sweet fold down worksurface". So over this long chore filled weekend I did just that.

I have a fairly heavy duty welding table so this wouldn't see anything more than parts assembly and stuff like that. And the fact that it folds up should keep it from getting filled with junk. I still need to paint it and put the latch handle back in as soon as a find a set of strikers I will make the handle functional for keeping it closed.

I think it looks pretty cool. Even if it doesn't make an ideal shelf (and I have no reason to believe it won't), it is a cool conversation piece.

Only thing I can see that would make it more cool is if it was a Toyota tailgate.:flipoff2:

Interesting idea. Just don't keep stuff on it so long that you never fold it back up. :flipoff2:

Horizontal spaces are the devil for gathering shit and never letting go.

Toyota tend to not sit dead in the driveway like the J10 did that and the tailgate on my 4runner isn't as thin as this gate is. Don't let the screen name fool you I web wheel an 85 4runner like nobody else can. :flipoff2:

My thought too - that would make a cool bench!
