: 1978 Ford Courier 4x4 Brahma
Howdy
I have a 1978 Ford Courier 4x4 Brahma. 2.5L Ford Ranger engine. Manual tranny. Just want to know has anyone heard of these things and I am thinking about restoring it later on when I get a better job and install a small block V8 in it. Then again I was thinking about selling it.
I did do some exterior work on it so the pictures are what it was looking like in the beginning. I stopped working on it and bought a 79 Ford F150 4X4.
It did had a truck bed. Where it is? I don't know.

This is a Brahma 4x4 conversion rather than a Sasquatch.

I am thinking about letting it go.
It needs alot of work though.
I have bought $500 worth of parts for it but didn't put it on. Mostly some brake stuff, radiator, and clutch...as well as a book for the dang thing.
My dumbass self decided to take the sparkplug wires (left the old sparkplugs in the engine) off of the engine without noting where which plug goes then I took out the old radiator and never hooked up the new one. Yes...dumb move.
The right 4x4 shaft needs to go back in because it didn't have a locker so that's why it was out.
It just needs some MAJOR TLC.
Anyone of yall seen these Brahma 4x4 conversions?

Thanks. Mine still needs quite a bit of work also and I've thought about giving it up and getting something that's already done, but I'm glad that I haven't.
I know these things are hard to find for sure in my area. Only saw one but it was 2wd and then in Middle Georgia they have a Courier in a tree or something...idiots.
just4cuz 09-09-2009, 10:18 PM If I remeber correctly the original Brahma conversions had a Jeep front axle and a divorced mounted Dana 20 transfer case. Still had the stock Japanese rear axle. Earl what are you running in yours...Toyota axles? Yours would be cool with a little Ford V6 in it. I have a Mazda B2600 that I am installing a 3.0 Vulcan V6 in it. You can get the bell housing to bolt right up to the Toyo Kogo 5sp/Mazda t-case.

I know that the Sasquatch conversions did use a Jeep Dana 30? front axle and a divorced Dana 20 t-case. Wouldn't be surprised if the Brahma used the same.
Mine is really just a Courier body on a Toyota chassis complete with 22re Toyota drive train and axles.
just4cuz 09-09-2009, 10:33 PM Cool and different. If my Mazda stuff blows up, I'll probably swap in Toyota axles and SAS it.
jeep937 09-10-2009, 12:14 AM I thought I read somewhere that the AA guy bought the plans for the OG Atlas from a guy in Ohio who had a conversion for these trucks. Anybody know anything about this?
just4cuz 09-15-2009, 08:38 PM No, maybe the Ohio guy is Jim Allen. He still writes for magazines and you can probably get in touch with him through the online magazine 4 wheel parts puts out. He writes tech articles for them.
Kenny714 09-15-2009, 09:52 PM I had a 76 2WD when I was about 12 yrs old. I bought it off some guy that lived at the campground where we went every weekend. I think I paid $20 for it. Tough little truck! I beat the hell out of it and it wouldn't die.

Yes.
Quote from their web site.
http://www.atlas-tc.com/history.html
"We heard of tooling and some components that were available from the early Ford Courier 4WD conversions. We felt that buying the tooling and the engineering would be a fast start for developing a low gear ratio transfer case.
Prototype unit.We called it "the peanut" case because of it's shape.
The tooling was purchased from a gentleman in Ohio."
