: Np205 Twin stick.. What's the deal? Mod both rails or just 1?

I have been trying to find a clear write up of twin sticking a Ford 205, but I am getting mixed information. Some people say to just mod the inner rail, others say to do both, etc. It sounds like if you just do one, you needto be careful and keep your front rail in neutrul... but if you do both, it will not allow you to get them mixed up in high-rear/low-font, etc.

???

There's quite a bit of info on this. Do some more searching.

That thread says to just mod the selector shaft..ok. What is confusing me is a write up which tells you to mod both shafts. I guess I will just do the selector shaft and see what happens.

On page 2 he says he can't cross the gears.

So what is the advantage of doing both ? I don't see what you would gain by doing the other rail.. Oh well. I am just worried about grinding too much and having it pop in and out of gears as my np203 did because of a worn shift rail... It was so irritating.

It seems like the majority of people just do the 1 rail. I will do it tomorrow and see what happens.

You only need to grind the rear one. Everything you need to know is in this short, easy article my buddy put together:

http://www.nwuonline.com/twinsitck-205.html

Its also exactly how I did mine. Works great.

You can see in the article that Ivan bought a shifter kit, they are available. All I did was just grab a spare np205 shifter out of the parts pile and modified it to work. My only real expense was buying the twinstick boot, I think I ended up being into the whole project about thirty five bones. There is another thread here in the Ford section where I included pics of it.

Thanks for the info guys! I just pulled the t-case. I can't see the freeze plugs, they are covered in rock hard gunk. I am going to have it sand blasted, then twin stick it, replace all gaskets and toss a coat of paint on it before I put it back in.

Thanks again.

Any progress homelessduck? I may end up doing it to my 205 soon. Prolly better to get it done while its still out of the truck. Just looking to avoid any expensive mistakes.

I followed this guide : http://www.nwuonline.com/twinsitck-205.html and everything went very smoothly. I haven't made my shifters yet, but the t-case shifts as it should.

you'll boy's need to check with Jed's maching he makes about the best set of triple stick shifters i've ever seen . he uses heim joints and all . i bought his doubler and shifters the smoothest shifting shifters it's just it came from the factory. he even sends you a triple stick gauge for the grinding measurements. he don't advertise the shifters on his web site but if you will call him he will build you a real nice set.all you have to do is bolt them in takes about 20 minutes for all three and you are ready to go.

Triple stick

I used heims when I fabbed mine up and it shifts smooth as silk. What does Jed's unit cost? Like I said, I was into mine for under $35 bones and its such a simple thing to setup it seems like a waste to pay somebody else for a kit.

IF YOU GO TO THIS LINK YOU CAN SEE WHAT TO DO TO THE SECOND SHIFT RAIL. CUT THE NUTRAL DETENT TO FULL SIZE AND WELD UP AND SHORTEN THE ENTERLOCK SLOT. NO MORE SLIDING INTO FRONT LOW AND NO WAY TO GET IN TWO GEARS

Thanks for all the info guys. I got a married 205 case last week I'll be replacing my 208 with. I figure I may as well twin stick it since it seems pretty easy. Gonna try to make my own shifter too... I have several transfer case shifters from various 208 and 13xx cases I've broken, so I'm thinking two 208 arms bolted to the trans (gotta find longer bolt and a bushing to make 'em tight!), then make a linkage the correct lenth and bolt to the 205 shift rails. Seems like it shouldn't be too difficult.

I never have had any luck with the grinding. One person says grind here, another grind there, measuremants and all. Then it never works right. So save your self some time and a big headache and just remove the interlocking rods.
