: Koh 2010
m016324 09-09-2009, 12:24 PM I know that it is early but it was posted up yesterday. February 12, 2010 is the date. So who's going to make it this time around? Put it on the calendars and start working it out. I'll have an upgraded output shaft and be ready to go.

maxyedor 09-09-2009, 02:49 PM Waiting for SNORE to announce a date for Battle at Primm, if it's the same weekend I have to go race trucks and fly around in helicopters, if it's the weekend after I'll be there.

m016324 09-11-2009, 12:57 PM Dude it's too cold in Switzerland in February. You should go in the summer. Then go to the lakebed for your winter trip
-ben
colorover 09-16-2009, 12:18 PM We'd go to travel as well as some sking AZ wussass:flipoff2:
In fact we are now talking about going somewhere before the end of the year, so Feb might just have opened up. Just have to see what happens.

colorover 12-07-2009, 01:06 PM I planning on it, hopefully with my brother riding shotgun. Whats the schedule going to be? Similar to last year, ie mostly wheeling after the race.

Thought you were going to the Alps? I've only talked to Doug, but I'll get in Tuesday evening for the Wed/Thurs LCQ, watch race Friday, then head back sometime on Saturday.
rock90 12-10-2009, 09:02 AM Matt from Rockware will be in the race. I have seen the new rock buggy he is building and it looks very cool. It has a removeable third member 14 bolt and LS1. The rear axle has a guts of a 14bolt and custom made casing.
Hope you guys have a good trip.

Is that the one he had at last years race where he finished 12th or 13th I think? It was my favorite rig in the race. Very out of the box and badass.

Actually I am planning on winning the essay contest and getting to race someone else's rig in the main event...if that doesn't pan out Doug is holding shotgun in the Hendrix rover for me. I wish I could bring it out this year again.

So three weeks out what are the final plans? Sounds like Doug, Tis, and B are all in. Looks like I might not be bringing my buggy now (broke some more stuff) but still planning on coming out. Anyone have room in thier truck? I am still planning on bringing out an RV to sleep in. Well just wanted to bring it back up to the top to see who all is still going and such.

RockRover 01-23-2010, 05:24 PM I'm in for sure. Just picked up my 2nd left side TSL (don't ask...), trailer axle is fixed...Just a few hours of TLC and the Hendrix Rover is good to go.
Ben I *might* have a extra seat IF my buddy Mike wimps out at the last second (you listening Mikey!?).
Gonna' be good boys. Lets hope the weather pukes it's guts out before the race and we have some sunshine w/o wind.

Billy, I'll get him your trail list and see if he'd rather hit the CC :homer: JK! Seriously, as it's been stated before in this thread, you would be a great asset to the group, AND the spectacle of it all would blow you away. Just being a spectator is a blast. It wouldn't disappoint man!

So what's the logistics? Tiz, is J-man picking you up at the airport? Who's picking up the 2nd motor-home?
I hear the lake bed is half full of water, and camp spots are going to be tricky. This is going to be epic. Can you imagine the drunken episodes of the idiots trying to 'bog' their way across the 'lake'...Then disappearing into a 10' deep crater? This is going to be good boys!

FrankenRover 02-19-2010, 09:05 PM well...... how was it?
deslandes 02-20-2010, 02:21 AM Any picts?
Buckon37s 02-20-2010, 11:10 AM The race was really good. Very fun to watch.
As for wheeling and hanging out it sucked. I busted my ring and pinion 100 feet into the trail. No wheeling. My mom came up and I took her around to see the race. That was fun. Only got to see the guys briefly. Then had to pack up early Sunday and get back home for a trip out east. It was just kinda a bummer. Good to see the guys briefly. Everybody seemed to be having a tough trip.
Jtisdale 02-22-2010, 08:24 AM well...... how was it?
The wheeling was awesome, the race was awesome, and the weather started out poorly but got better as the week went along. Mike, Jordan, and Greg picked me up at the airport Tuesday and we met Brendon and Lance at the RV rental shortly after. A quick stop at In and Out lead us to Walmart where we bought about $500 worth of cheese whiz, towels, and other "necessities" we had forgotten or didn't have room to bring. We rolled onto Boone Rd mid afternoon and Hammertown was already at least as big as last year's max day...sort of like seeing Vegas from a distance. Doug was there and waiting, so we unpacked, set up, unloaded the rigs eagerly wanting to hit the trail. As usual Backdoor was a circus, so we decided to run Sledge, clearly not remembering the long nite we had there the first nite last year. The lakebed was not a "lake" but was still quite muddy from all of the rain so we mud bawged across it heading for the trail; by this time is was getting late in the day. The trail appeared to be relatively unoccupied so we headed up. At the first wedge just below the plaque Brendon gets hung/wedged and after some different lines puts one last effort into it before we hear "ching, ching, ching" in the rear Toy diff. Upon further inspection his driveshaft is dangling and he had broken the flange in his DC driveshaft as well. The break was a bit surprising but then again Brendon is consistently challenging his full bodied D90 and the places he takes it, usually with relative ease. At this point it's getting dark and it's 35 degrees...fortunately for us it starts raining too. Doug is last in line so he works on freeing Brendon before blowing a radiator hose which later proved to be a week ender for his rig; he is now investigating an LS1. We end up turning around and head down as the Extreme 4x4 guys were stuck at the plaque with issues and had apparently been there for 4 hours. I think the lesson learned is don't run Sledge on the first nite. Day two is a little dreary but we have high hopes for the sun to return and want to run trails regardless. About this time Ben pulls up in what looks like an RV he stole from Wonder Bread circa 1970. We all go over to watch the second day of the LCQ at Backdoor to see some action; we were also pumped to hear that Matt Peterson had turned in the second fastest time the first day and should have no problem making the main event. Last year was a full out assault on Backdoor with rigs flipping, breaking, and occasionally cleaning the first attempt; this year with the LCQ being a bit longer and the rock being wet most cars were pulling winch line as soon as they pulled up to the ledge. After this we grabbed a burrito and headed out to run some trails, we ended up hitting Bender Alley which we didn't get to run last year. With Brendon pulling round the clock diff repair/parts chasing and Doug out with a blown head gasket our three buggies make quick work of the trail. On Thursday we awoke to a nice sunny day finally and Jordan and I had decided Spooner's Canyon was on the menu; it was a trail that we did not get to hit last year on the last day. It was quite fun with me nearly putting my car on it's side at the first obstacle and Jordan putting the "rental" on it's roof on a later climb. Mike's rig did really well despite cutting a swamper; all in all it was a great day on the trail. Raceday was Friday so we headed out early to a few desert sections where we could see the cars at speed. Most of the lead cars were absolutely getting it. After that we and about 25,000 other people congregated at the plaque on Sledge to watch some rock action; this is where only one line exists and cars were stacking up last year and some attempting to drive over one another. Pretty much the same deal this year with very few racers cleaning the ledge without a winch; the flash floods appear to have helped the ledge grow a foot or two. We spend the bulk of the day at that spot watching a mixture of strategy and carnage. Definately a very unique event and something you must see if you enjoy extremes in off roading. I'm sure I missed some details but that is my Monday morning recap. Oh yeah, Mike will have to post some pictures because I think I only took like 2.
