: Critique my Para Sling...
Keith Strong 09-09-2009, 10:28 PM Well, it started off with a bunch of para cord I had laying around for months. Finally decided I would do something with it.
First incarnation was cool, but not what I wanted. I quickly discovered it needed to be removable and v1.0 was tied into the mount points. I also discovered that the length I want to carry with is different than the length I like to shoot with  So here is v1.0
Oh yeah, and the knot up top was perfect to dig in to your shoulder when slung up :shaking:
Keith Strong 09-09-2009, 10:32 PM v2.0 came out a lot better. Tapped in a sling mount on the buttstock, and then took an old cheapo ring and hit it with the angle grinder. Then a few swipes with varying files to even it out and drill and tap for another sling mount. Next one I make will be with a slightly better cheapo ring and I will actually take care to file it flat ;) I also retied the sling adding the nylon webbing as shown. Gave me just the right amount of adjustability to do whatever I want with it. Comfortable as hell too, I think I could carry it for a while this way. What sayeth the OSR PBB Gods? Criticize and improve it for me ;)
Keith Strong 09-09-2009, 10:33 PM Also did a v1.1 :flipoff2: I needed a strap for my USPSA purse. This is 4 pieces of scrap melted together with a lighter :grinpimp:
D_JEEPER 09-09-2009, 10:56 PM wow, very nice!
how much for the second gen sling to 23692?
ALSO, for durability, i hope you used metal hardware in the connection of the cord and nylon strap?
Keith Strong 09-09-2009, 11:02 PM You think people would actually buy these? Honestly, they are relatively cheap to make, but time consuming. This one actually has a plastic transition, only because it is what I ahd laying around. If I make more I will get some metal ones. I just need to get a bunch of swivel mounts for my other guns now.
D_JEEPER 09-09-2009, 11:09 PM why even use the plastic piece... just make a loop at the end of the paracord (if possible?)
It should still slide...
but yeah, i would be interested in one if it would help you buy more paracord for your next one.
D_JEEPER 09-09-2009, 11:16 PM you should make it so you can slip in .223 rounds, haha... would look badass, but impractical as hell
but seriously... if you get Earth cord, green cord and black cord, i can see people wanting something like this with many different options to choose from
tacolover 09-10-2009, 01:09 AM Would be great for a BUG. If ever needed you could unravel it to use it for any number of things.
pipehitter155 09-10-2009, 03:19 AM would people buy these, check this cat out:
http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=366616&nt=12&page=1
actually i would be interested in a single setup...i already have the clip for it...i actually got it at northern tools...i will post a pic of it later..
rockmup 09-10-2009, 05:04 AM Looks great. I like the style
I have like 500' of black and OD Green I want to do that with, its just way down on the list. lol
Got a source for metal hardware ?
muddawg95yj 09-10-2009, 06:26 AM but yeah, i would be interested in one if it would help you buy more paracord for your next one.
x2
Grendel 09-10-2009, 06:29 AM Add me to that list of people interested in one.

I considered that, but this just made it cleaner and easier to put together/take apart
but seriously... if you get Earth cord, green cord and black cord, i can see people wanting something like this with many different options to choose from
I am gonna get some more cord this weekend. I will see what color options are available to me.
Would be great for a BUG. If ever needed you could unravel it to use it for any number of things.
That was my theory. I didnt measure but I would guess it is about 70 feet of cord.
actually i would be interested in a single setup...i already have the clip for it...i actually got it at northern tools...i will post a pic of it later..
Hmmmm, only problem with a single setup would be the adjustment. I will play with it sometime.
Got a source for metal hardware ?
Not yet, need to research it.
Doc/Grendel, would I need a Yellow star for a single item like this?
If I do decide to do it it will be a single order at a time and I can make them custom to your length desire. How much would it be worth to you guys?
NEWMANS OWN 09-10-2009, 06:49 AM Price. 40223. :)
Grendel 09-10-2009, 06:49 AM Doc/Grendel, would I need a Yellow star for a single item like this?
If you sell to make profit, yes.
Keith Strong 09-10-2009, 06:53 AM Is a profit only large enough to buy more parts still a profit? :flipoff2: :p  It all depends how much it costs to make. They are just time consuming enough that I wouldn't want to mass produce. I really need to see what it will cost to make. I would rather just give them out for cost (PBB ONLY!) but my time is valuable ;)

Understood. I am not really the one to answer that one, then.
Ask Camo or Lance.
Texas97 09-10-2009, 07:02 AM looks very interesting and very unique. i would be interested in one that had no hardware on it and was long enough to where the connections would be slip-knot style to go on my shotgun that has no sling mounts.
Would like to have it where it would slip-tight down around the barrel somewhere and then somehow tighten around the buttstock.
You should peddle your wares on barfcom too.... i think guys over there hear paracord and get insta-wood... :flipoff2:
Bubba Ray Boudreaux 09-10-2009, 07:08 AM Nice:grinpimp:
I would stitch the webbing instead of using rivets/screws.

Thats the problem with this stuff, its sooo time consuming that there is no profit in it. You gotta be doing it just because you like it and have the time.
I dont watch much TV so there goes that option. lol
DavidVanVorous 09-10-2009, 07:25 AM Also did a v1.1 :flipoff2: I needed a strap for my USPSA purse. This is 4 pieces of scrap melted together with a lighter :grinpimp:
Both pieces look real nice. Glad to see someone else has taken the art of macrame out from the classic "hippie" plant hanger venue and into a more useful/functional form. :D
D.
Rat~Man 09-10-2009, 07:29 AM More macrame?
Wanna weave a plant hanger for my wife? :flipoff2:
looks cool actually, just busting your ball :negraflipoff2:
Sturgell 09-10-2009, 07:31 AM I just want a how to thread on the paracord knot tying thing.:flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:
aloharover 09-10-2009, 07:43 AM Not trying to do an end run, but keith I can handle all the sales if you want.

Chris 09-10-2009, 08:41 AM YOu have too much time on your hands. Looks sharp, though. :D
muddawg95yj 09-10-2009, 08:48 AM I have some of that nylon webbing in camo and maybe some various buckles that go with it that might look :grinpimp: with some OD or tan cord.
How do you do that? Link to instructions? Looks killer :smokin:
Texas97 09-10-2009, 11:59 AM Thanks Ben.

i like the wide solomon bar better. looks a little flatter to me... but what do it know.

Need to register to see it.
The user "TyingItAllTogether" on YouTube has quite a few good videos on how to weave different patterns though.
EDIT: Anybody have a good source for the "bolts" that go through the nylon to for a loop? I don't have access to a sewing machine but would really like to make some things.

Ooops. Seems like every cool site I know of with paracord threads is like that:laughing:

How many you want? PM me.
Keith Strong 09-10-2009, 09:22 PM How much do you guys really think these would be worth. I have been waiting for a few years to start a business and this just might be the product I was looking for. Outside of the PBB, what do you think people will pay?
Keith Strong 09-10-2009, 09:36 PM Apparently I am too stupid to add a poll to a thread, so I ask here, what length do you all like having your slings. Do you adjust them a lot from carrying to shooting?
mikey_d05 09-10-2009, 09:37 PM Guess I've never actually measured, but I do adjust my sling quite a bit if I use it for both shooting and carrying, so the nylon webbing at one end would be necessary.
Bubba Ray Boudreaux 09-10-2009, 09:50 PM How much do you guys really think these would be worth.
In the overpriced tactical gear market, probably an assload and a half:laughing:
Cover your costs and whatever you think your time is worth. I'll tell ya though, make it worth your time. Just wish you'd posted this about two weeks ago, I've been looking for a new sling for one of my tac team rifles and will be on the range with it all next week. I would have sported that in a heart beat:grinpimp:
And yes, make them adjustable.

I did a search and found this...
http://www.survivalstraps.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=RIFLE-SLING
Fifty bucks for what looks like your version 1.0
That should give you a ballpark idea of what you can get.
pipehitter155 09-11-2009, 04:52 AM Here's some snaphooks for you too...they have some other stuff that you could probably use...check out the site....
http://www.strapworks.com/Metal_HK_Snap_p/mhk-z.htm
Keith Strong 09-11-2009, 06:43 AM OK, so this brings up another good question for you guys. What type of hooks would you like to see on the ends of these? I did the quick release sling swivels because I have those on several rifle applications. Would you prefer hooks?
Rat~Man 09-11-2009, 07:05 AM Personally I like the quick release setup but, I'd offer both.
LOPPY 09-11-2009, 07:31 AM So Keith, those needlepoint and crochet classes in college are finally paying off. Nice!
Very cool. I cant wait to steal one from your garage when you're not looking. :flipoff2: Rat Man is right, offer both ends. Also offer all popular colors and make them adjustable. I think they'd fly.
And as far as time consuming.... dood, you have a crahp load of illegal mexicans next door. A case of Budweiser an hour ought to get you 3 or 4 of them an hour.
The Black Sheep 09-11-2009, 08:06 AM Damn, Shipping to 06360.
willys101_4lo 09-11-2009, 08:18 PM Hell yeah, those things are badass.... If I had an AK, I would want one for it....
On that note, put me on the list of wanting one, just in case I should ever stumble across an AK at a reasonable price :smokin:
TheAlmightySam 09-11-2009, 08:38 PM Looks awesome! Price please :D
usmcdoc14 09-11-2009, 09:02 PM 2 questions:
1) are you tying the outer and then passing the center lines or are you tying the outer lines AROUND the center.
Reason I ask is the first is MUCH MUCH quicker  send me a PM if you need hints :D
2) how much cord do you need and what do you have in trade?

I am out of town and getting ready to leave for an IPSC match. PM you later this weekend or Monday ;)
Really need you guys to measure for me :flipoff2: Need to get an average OAL people use on their slings.

Really need you guys to measure for me :flipoff2: Need to get an average OAL people use on their slings.
Mine:
AK: 44"
FAL: 45"
Underfolder AK: 41"
Bolt action 308: 36"
Those are currently the only rifles I have slings on.
D_JEEPER 09-12-2009, 10:11 AM I have 34" of sling from mount to mount on my AR15. It is used more for standing aiming than carrying, but i could use it a little longer if needed to be. But if you have a strap then it could be adjusted.

That would probably be about right on my AR also, if I had a 2 point instead of the 1 point I have. If it was adjustable 10-12 inches, I think it would fit the widest range of rifles. How much adjustment does the one you made have from shortest adjustment to longest, and what are the measurements?
Keith Strong 09-15-2009, 11:31 PM Current measurements are 31.25 at shortest and 36.25 at longest. I think my goal will be about 34 short and 40 long. I have to figure out the best way to set up straps in order to get the most adjustability without over using strap. Simple is kind of the draw on this one. It adjusts very easily in the v2.0 setup.
Love to get more measurements from people. What are your slings at currently?
D_JEEPER 09-16-2009, 01:56 AM yeah, 34 is for standing aim, not sling port....
Keith Strong 09-20-2009, 09:45 PM It looks like 32-40 is about what they will end up. Thats with 20" of paracord (about 40 feet untied)
Keith Strong 09-28-2009, 10:42 PM New, AR 15 version. It is a PIA to make the straps removable and still look halfway decent.
NEWMANS OWN 09-29-2009, 07:14 PM HK snaps? on the end?
Sign me up just let me know when your ready...
thanks

Keith Strong 10-06-2009, 10:01 PM Cleaned this thread up a little. I have sold some on Calguns, once I sell a few more I can order some different hooks for you guys. How would you do HK hooks? On both ends or just the top end and strap on the bottom?
Keith Strong 10-14-2009, 09:17 PM By demand. $5 more but worth it ;)
pennsylvaniaboy 10-15-2009, 01:49 PM these are pmp..i would love to get one
Keith Strong 10-15-2009, 09:28 PM So buy one :flipoff2:
How about this guys? For reference I am 5'10" and about 190. :flipoff2:
DefendingAmendment2 10-16-2009, 04:39 PM A model with boobs might sell a few more slings. Wait, I mean bigger boobs than this one.
Keith Strong 10-16-2009, 07:34 PM You get yours yet? Post pics when you do!
I am working on her, but she has gotten shy since Dyllen came. I told her and her sister we need "Dueling DD" pics
pipehitter155 10-18-2009, 05:39 AM So buy one :flipoff2:
How about this guys? For reference I am 5'10" and about 190. :flipoff2:
glad you finally put out a single point sling...looks good...
stRanger 10-18-2009, 08:53 AM So did we ever establish the type of 'weave' / 'knot' tying system he is using? Maybe I should pick up knitting when I'm not at the station, looks like there is something good that can come from it
Very cool design I like it!
DefendingAmendment2 10-19-2009, 07:58 PM Just when I thought I couldn't fit any more gadgets on my rifle, along came the "Survival Sling". At least I don't have to carry spare batteries for the sling.
Keith Strong 10-19-2009, 09:55 PM Glad you like it
Rat~Man 10-20-2009, 07:17 AM By demand. $5 more but worth it ;)
So send me one biatch. :D
Seriously. PM me amount and address and I'll send ya a envelope with cash or something. I need to get up with craigrat :blackflipoff2:
Grendel 11-01-2009, 10:32 AM Just bought three of these through Pete, they rock so much.

Manufacturer shipping error :flipoff2: Both of you guys got packages going out tomorrow. Pete, don't forget about my P250 grip. Check for that coming with the sling.
