Would this work instead of a coilover? Are they road legal? What is the down side over a Coilover?

Street legal-Unsure, assuming yes
The 2.5" Air Shock is strong enough for 1klbs a corner
Advantage to Coil overs are less progressive spring rate, if the shock fails, the vehicles weight will still rest on the springs, if an A-Shock fails you are in trouble.
-All this being said, I run both the 2.0 and 2.5's on a couple different rigs and prefer them. they are lighter, earier to set ride heighth, comfortable and I usually carry 1 spare Shock in event I break one to get off trail. I hope this helps.

It does thank you. Where at in the stroke of the shock should the vehicle sit? Should the air shock be what limits down travel. How much longer should the shock down travel be over the suspension travel if you are using straps. You said that airshock are good for 1000 lb per corner, is that 1 per corner for a D-1? Not sure what they weigh. Sorry for all the questions but this seems like a good option over my current setup and way less expensive than coil overs.

is this the only forum that you have been to on the board? How about you search. There are literally thousands of threads about coil overs and air shocks and how they work.

they are good shocks. there is no law in the us that i know of that tells you what kind of shocks you can and can't have.

do you realize how a coilover or airshock works? it is usually not just a bolt in affair.

sorry to sound like a dick, but judging by the way you asked, it sounds like you may not.

Our hybrids work well for street driven vehicles.

This is going to take a while but I am going to do the hybrid air shock that has coils in the rear. Looks like about a $900 investment so its deffinitely a winter project. Should be able to start around Christmas after the bonus comes. After taking a good hard look at my vehicle I am faced with only allowing myself 1 serious upgrade per year so this is it. I got a T-case yesterday for $200 and I have a line on some 1.4 gears for it for a good price hopefully so that fixes my too tall gearing. Wouldnt mind lockers and gears but thats just too much for right now. Maybe next year. I will post as I go.
