ok I asked it already but no one answered, so here goes again, I'm thinking of getting an ls6 could I use it with an nv4500 tranny or would I have to have machine work done to the tranny?

As far as I know the LS-6 does not have a standard small block chevy bolt pattern, however I'm sure you could adapt some how as they put the 6 speeds behind standard chevies.

I believe the bellhousing will bolt up but the input shaft is too long/too short. I had inquired about mating a 700R4 to a Vortec 5300 and that is what the guy told me.

Well, both the LS-6 and Viper V10 have the T56 six-speed tranny (albeit different gear ratios four fifth and sixth). The football player with the Viper V10 TJ ran an NV4500, so I would guess that you could mate one to an LS6 as well. I'd contact Burnsville Offroad, since they're the ones who did the V10/NV4500 swap. Hope that helps.

Input shaft between engine & tranny?

BTW, the 5300 comes stock with a 4L60E in GM pickups. The 4L60E IS a TH700, just electronically controlled.

I bet you have to be a professional football player to afford the adapter.

correct me if I'm wrong but the LS6 is the 454 from the late 60's early 70's. The LS1 is the new aluminum block 5.7. The hotrod version of the vet is the Z06. This might help if you are calling around asking how to mate one or the other.;)

GM is recycling the nomenclature. I believe the engine in the Z06 is now coded as LS6. Kinda like the LT1 of a few years back & the LT1 of 1970/71.

Well i'll be damned.:flipoff2: I went to http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/performance_parts/frameset.cfm and you are right. You would think they would keep the nomenclature for big blocks seperate from the new small blocks. Let us know if it works as this would be the combo i went to...... right after i win the loto. That would be one nice light package and still have the OD to let you drive with deep gears.

cool, it'll be a while before I get the scratch to do it but if it can be done, this is the combo I wanna run. anyone wanna buy advertising on the side?;)

first off if you put a ls6 into a jeep or something i give you mad props. i plan to when i get rich. i have heard that they will only bolt up to the newer trannies such as 4L60 and 4L80.

also as far as nomenclature goes i think the older engines were called LS-6 and LT-1. Now we have LS6 and LT1

As Tex indicated above, any motor that will "bolt up" to a 4L60 will bolt up to a SM465 or TH400. Chevy is pretty consistent in that regard.

Prices of these motors are coming down too, they don't cost any more than a HP Dana 60 from Dynatrac. Look for more of them in the future. Light weight is  .
