It was sad watching my 406 drive away today. I loved the little guy, but want a longer wheelbase. I am struggling with a decision between the 416 and a 404. I am leaning towards the 416, but the price and weight of the 404 has my attention.

The 404 makes a better off road truck but the 416 has more power with the desiel and is built heavy duty. I wanted a hard core wheeler that I could tow to the trail so the 404 was for me. So it depends on what your plans are with your Mog.

IMO, the only way a 404 is going to be a better wheeler is if you totally strip it to the bone (which you could also do with a 416). The power and gearing of a cascade equipped 416 far outweighs the slight advantage a stock 404 has over the later diesel.

The only plus a 404 has is that it's worth much less, so trashing it is less of an issue :grinpimp:

My decision was made easier than I thought! I will buy both :D Just talked to Von about his restorations, and I am going to put the superfast axles on the 416 and drive it daily. I am also going to get a 404 and strip it down to the barest essentials. The 416 will come first, and I will pick up the 404 in 6 or 8 months.

Well...there you go.

Now all you need is a MBU/SBU DoKa for crusin' and you'll be all set !

Two mogs, that solves every thing. Disco your right about the 416 being a better all around truck out of the box, and I have not owned one to tell the difference ( on my x-mas list ) and your right about the $, I would not want to cut up and do all of the mods I have done to mine to make it a rock crawler if I hade a nice 416 mog and I dont' feel bad when I roll it. Slagged post some pics of your new ride.
