I have an 81 toyota with a 22r. It has always ran hot when on the freeway trying to do 70, when wheeling hard, or trying to speed around town. Pretty much gets hot when I get on it for more than a couple minutes. Anything over 3k rpms for a few minutes and it gets hot. I got a new radiator, and it didnt do anything. I got a new thermostat, and nothing. I am currently running no tstat, and it seems to help a little, but it still gets hot, to 220 sometimes according to my aftermarket guage. My guage is wired to the block right by the 4th cylinder. I noticed the other day when it was hot, and we were waiting for it to cool, that my radiator cap seems to leak air, no water comes out, but I can hear air escaping. Could this be the problem. Also, searching the internet, I found this lionk that says my engine is supposed to run at 220 degrees, http://www.salemboysauto.com/original-faqs/faq-19.htm is this true? I live in a town that gets 110 sometimes, and dont want my truck to blow up. Maybe I should just get a 3 core? I dunno. Help me out!
