Jeep is a 79 CJ5 manual tranny non-tilt column.

The key is broken off in the current cylinder in the off position. Steering Wheel is locked up. Attached are pics of where I am stuck right now. What else do I need to do to get the old cylinder out?

Thanks

i'm having the same issue in my 79 jeep cj 7 I have it pulled all the way to that point and cant remove the plastic cover from the ignition lock. Have been reading some things that state the key has to be in the on position to remove the cylinder but don't know if that is the case. Don't know if you can turn you lock at all I know my wont turn at all

If the key is broken off in there, I think I would have stuck a screwdriver in there and turned it to the on position???

If its a manual trans the key has to be in the on position to remove the cylinder. Auto is off position.

You have a retaining screw that holds the cylinder in, remove it and you should be able to get a screwdriver in there to release the cylinder.

You might as well do it right and fix your horn while youre in there.
