The V8 that they fitted into the Range Rover was less powerful than the stock 3.5l fitted into the cars over here.
For some reason the compression ratio was dropped quite a lot, making it a very underpowered engine.
I think it was lacking about 20hp than the one the car had fitted.
The engine I have in my truck was originally from a Range Rover, but it has been reworked to give out 250bhp/260-270 lbs ft torque. This has made it very interesting.
Also it has increased the mpg, probably because the engine is having to do a lot less work.

what was done to your engine to get the HP????
What is your MPG? I have the stock engine in mine and I get about 17MPG in mixed driving. I have a friend who gets 20 out of his identical truck.

and did you know... the series 3 109" V8's had an even more de-tuned 3.5. it had restrictors in the inlet manifold and gave 91bhp.
pants or what!!??
something to do with the 11" drum brakes and chassis not being up to the job. (for production and hence insurance/claiming things)

From what I can remember
Block re-bored to take 4.1ltr billett aluminium lightened and balanced pistons. Crank shaft lightened and balanced and re-ground. Block decked by 60 thou, head skimmed by 80 thou. Head totally reworked, all ports opened up, 3 angle valve job, inlets/outlets polished to give a better flow of gases. Uprated cam shaft (not too hot as it would struggle to tick over, but it's a bit lumpy on tick over). Uprater oil pump. Dual plane intake manifold and 600 cfm 4 barrell carb. Uprated ignition system (something to do with the spark?). Pair of 4 branch tublar exhaust manifolds/headers. Twin exhaust pipes that are matched to the engine in both length and bore.
Somewhere I have a written report of the engine by the guy who built it. I'll find it and post it up.

the reason the compression ratio was dropped was for lower quality gas in third world countries.
