For some time now i have been looking for a scope for my CMMG midlength i got from Pete, but have been very unsuccessful in finding what i want.

wants:
1) Variable Power
2) Close to Mid Range scope. This means no more then 3x for the low end of the power range.
3) Compact Length. i would prefer something less then 10" as i dont particularly want to put a full length scope on my carbine. probably a max of 11"
4) decent size objective. prefer~40mm range.
5) illumination. this is strictly a want for a cool factor, but if its illuminated, it MUST have a normal (black) reticle in case of dead battery.

i have finally found what im looking for, but im afraid it is a piss poor scope...

Its a Barska Contour 3-9x42 (http://www.barska.com/ac10552.html). i am thinking what the hell, its only $75. i might as well give it a try and if i dont like it, i can move it to a .22 or similar.

anyone else know of a scope that is close to the wants listed above? I am certainly open to a better scope, but am not looking to spend $500+ right now...

you get what you pay for.....that being said i picked up a millet dms-1 for one of my AR's, for the price tag you actually get alot of scope for the money...good luck with your search...

Try finding a simmons pro-diamond 1-4x. I have been wanting to get one of these for my AR. I really would like a trijicon accupoint in 1 to 4x.

At the risk of being repetitive....

DMS-1 :D

Its a great, adjustable, relatively inexpensive scope.

What is the opinion of the Millet TRS-1? I really like the Leupold I have on my LR308, and would love to have something similar on a "traditional style" hunting rifle, but I'm looking for something with an illuminated reticle.

my Millet DMS-1 illumination was broken out of the box. Still have yet to get it fixed. The power adjustment also feels kinda cheesy and not very definate when changing. A lot of people really like these but so far I haven't been impressed.

well thats because it was broken out of the box... that would cloud my opinion too! :flipoff2:

But in all seriousness, some people have said the power adjustment was hard to turn, and i dont find that to be the case at all. there is the "one handed ring adjustment doo-hickey" that someone posted on here that helps, but i dont think its necessary.

My DMS has been a very nice peice that i have been impressed with right out of the box. my only beef is that how i shoot (not nose to chargeing handle) that it has to be very far back to get to where i want can see through it clearly. its not as long-eye-relief as i was hoping for. But thats just me and my shooting style....

Edit: and about the TRS-1: i would love to try one out myself. for 300 bucks it seems like a hell of a scope, but I am a little weary of the 50mm reticle and having to use some mid to higher rise rings to clear the barrel on a couple of my rifles. I would like to try one out on a 308 that i have in the works.... just need the funds for that....

The thing i dont like about the DMS is the objective diameter. Has anyone used it in low light conditions or when its dark outside? How was its light gathering capabilities?

Leupold MarkAR 1.5-4x 20mm
This what I put on top of one of my AR's. For the money I have not found a scope like it. It had the look I was looking for, clear glass and 1.5-4x20 mag.
