Hey,

I got a '86 chevy 1/2 ton shortbed truck and a 3/4 ton fullsize chevy frame, which i want to run with the cab and bed from the 1/2 ton truck. I really dont want to cut the frame in the middle so i opted to move the spring hangers in the back. Is there a post somewhere with information on doing a conversion like this? or any input would be awesome (pros/cons).

-Im not worried about pinion angle as i have a pair of toploaders
-im not worried about the upward swoop in the back end of the frame for the stock rear axle as i have removed the bump stops and will be running 12" springs.
-also spring length doesnt matter at this point either becuase i havent moved the hangers yet, i only cut them off so far.

Just curious if theres some pictures, links or a write up i could look into...

Thanks
Jake

is there a general rule of thumb when considering the angle of your shackle when modifying suspension, im doing a shackle flip as well...

Well if you decide you want to cut the frame make sure to cut like / / not straight up and down

try searching instead of asking questions on stuff that has been covered before. This info is out there on Pirate. Use the search feature and you will find what you want. Look for them instead of asking for Links to pictures or write ups.

First off, why are you wanting to use the 3/4 ton frame?

There is no improvement over the 1/2 ton if strength issues are what you are worried about.

If strength is what you are after, then keep the shortbed frame, don't chop it up, and if you have the time and tools and place to work, and are willing to start removing beds and cabs (obviously), box the frame rails and make some stronger custom crossmembers.

When setting up a shackle flip, I run ~30* angle with trucks weight resting on the suspension.
