A group of us just got back from Moab and want to pass on a very bad experience with Spanish Trail RV Park. http://www.spanishtrailrvpark.com/
If you are planning to stay at a campground in Moab and you are a wheeler, please make sure not to stay at the Spanish Trail RV Park. They were very unprofessional and rudely advised we "do not want your kind at our park." Our kind are 30 something to 50 year old jeepers with Lance type campers, diesel pickups, Jeeps on trailers and one with a new pull behind camper. They charge more for a pickup camper towing a Jeep then they do for 40’+ buses. You get charged separately for the truck, the slide in camper, the vehicle on the trailer, and the trailer. They advised this is by design to ensure they keep the jeepers out and have a classier cliental.

We made reservations many weeks in advance to ensure we would have 5 adjoining sites waiting for us upon our arrival around 1400 Thursday afternoon. When we arrived at Spanish Trails they were very rude and made it very clear that their campground does not cater to “our kind.” They did not hide that they prefer non-wheelers in large diesel pusher motor coaches, not jeepers. This was never conveyed to us when the reservations were made. In addition they placed each of us in the smallest sites located at opposite corners of the park.
My wife and I were the last to arrive and after being harassed by the lady at the checking counter, we left for a campground that would actually want our business and treat us with something other than disdain. We have been camping in Moab for 16 years and this was the worse experience we have ever had. After we left they went to the others in our group, who had already paid in full, unloaded their Jeeps and set up camp and “asked” them to leave. They all happily got their money back and left. The park lost ~ $1k from us and they did not care at all. No wonder they have very few repeat visitors!

We are in the process of sending complaint letters to the Moab Chamber of Commerce. We realize that this will likely not change the unprofessional and discriminative practices of Spanish Trails, but at least we are trying to get the word out so others can avoid them.
We ended up staying at the Canyonlands RV Park http://www.canyonlandsrv.com/
where they actually wanted our business and were very nice.

I've had the same experience and I will never use them again!!! I had a Fleetwood Truck camper and a car trailer with my buggy on it, and they put us in the back, away from the rest of our group (10 RVs). If you don't drive a $500K Prevost they don't want you there! There are many campsites in Moab that are happy to have us, and they will get my business in the future!!!

ep, that place is a peice of shit. I damn near had the throw down with the manager there a few years back. I was riding my Big Wheel thru there, cruisin' for chics, and the manager decides to chase me off in his truck. Needless to say, I wasnt having any of that. Alot of not-so-friendly word were exchanged and then next thing I know he runs to his truck and gets an axe handle and comes after me!! Oh hell no!!!

Long story short, I am not allowed there and that is good cuz I'll never go back there, ever!

I forgot to mention, We got ran outta there when we tried to set up camp in the middle of the night with my 97 PSD, '74 Pilgram camper(yes, baby shit orange and yellow) with my cruiser on the trailer. Usually, pulling into a "closed" park at night is ok, as long as you go in in the morning and pay. NOT THERE!!!

Another vote for http://www.canyonlandsrv.com/. We stayed there for the last two Jeep Safari's, and they were really nice. They have a area down by their creek to park your trailers, and several people were working on there vehicles in the park with no problems. Because we take two Dobermans with us camping, Canyonlandsrv is one of the only campgrounds that will allow them. The other campgrounds insurance providers won't allow them.:(

Very true. We missed the cotten by a week or so. The bathroom was alittle dirty. I liked being closer to town.....easy to find your way "home" after a night out on the town.

That and that is the host camp ground for Cruise Moab. I'll have the try the Canyonland next time.

Wow... fawk Spanish Arena...:shaking:

I have always based out of the OK RV Park (near Spanish Arena)... it's cheap and a good place to leave my stuff while I'm out playing. The owners are very nice and have no problems with working on rigs on the grounds....

(they even said it was ok to air tools during the day... as far away as we could get form other campers:smokin::D)

At Cruise Moab 08 we trashed the rear "y" link and we worked and work and worked on it all day long with our air compressor running, Marlins truck running for 4 hours straight will we used it to weld everything back together. All tolled, we had our rig, marlins truck, 2 other 40's and a mini truck all torn apart in our double rv spot. No one complained once. The owner lady even brought us iced tea and some sandwiches. They'll get my business anytime.

It was actually really cool of Marlin to have help us as mush as he did. He had just shown up and we asked if we could use his welder alittle. "no problem!!" nearly 5 hours later, after much moaning and growning by his employees and friends and wife, we were finally done and he went out wheeling. He was helping everyone around the camp ground while we welded. he would even ask very nicely EVERY time he needed in our tool box. I told him he didnt need to ask as long as the tools came back.

Anyways, That was alittle off sunject but I thought I'd share a cool story about a great vendor.

Another vote for Canyonlands, I have stayed there several times. Very clean place and the staff is very kind( considering that they are "moab people"). I take my black lab "Ratchet" along with my junk willys that I'm always having to work on. I've never had experience with any of the other campgrounds, so thanks for the heads up. I have no tolerance for rude behavior.

Good to know to avoid Spanish Trails at any cost! I made then cancelled a reservation at this place http://www.moabvalleyrv.com/Policies.html after reading their policies and confirming that they would charge me extra for both the CJ and the flatbed trailer while tent camping. They only charged me $10 to cancel :flipoff2: If they enforce all their policies they're pretty heavy handed in my book.

One stay at Slickrock and it was okay. We have stayed several times at Canyonlands and been very happy there every time. Great access to Moab Brewery! We just returned from a week at Archview which was great, as were two previous stays there. It is 9 miles from town but the upside is amazing views and more openness, basic cabins at $40 are a steal IMO and everything is clean and well maintained. Also popular with quad riders due to access to several trails from the campground.

Over on RME they have started a thread about which businesses in Moab are wheeler friendly and support wheelers. They had a black list of unfriendlies but it got out of hand and was trashing some places that shouldn't have been I guess. So they decided to start a wheeler friendly thread so we knew who our dollars should be supporting. We don't camp so we stay at the Moab Valley Inn. Last Easter I had all the studs break off in my Atlas. pulled it apart in the parking lot. Two of their guys came out to see if I needed a hand. I think that probably qualifys as wheeler friendly.:D

Looks like you're not the only one that noticed the staff's rude behaviour:

i have relayed this general feeling to the owners out there years ago and they basically told me "fuck you freinds" lol
I really did just laugh at them...
see what they think of me when they realize if everyone of my "freinds"stopped going there, they would only have like 5 customers... whatever.

BTW teh coton is everywhere in moab, just takes about 2 weeks for it to make it accross town.
