Was talking to a buddy of mine with a newer Crewcab V10 and he was bitching about the $2200 bill he just had to foot because a sparkplug blew out of his V10. There were 2 other V10's there getting the same thing fixed. From what his service manager told him Ford knows about the problem but to his knowledge won't issue a TSB because they don't want to be held accountable for the problem. His has 65,000 or so on it. There were another 3 loose plugs that they tightened. They had to replace the entire head because Ford would not let them helicoil it something to do with the fact that it has aluminum heads or something.

Check your plugs!!

I searched here and didn't see anything, hopefully this will keep someone from getting a similar bill.

well when i had my V10 (wish i still had it) i heard about this over on Ford-Diesel.com in the gas section....

how hard is it to take a 5/8 plug socket and check them? with 2k on my truck i had 3 that were a little less than snug.... tightened them up and made mention next time i had it in, dealer said that was a good idea :D

Well, in general people are lazy and since they have a 100,000 maintenance period most people don't even think about it.

(Had a fun experience with this on my toyota al head when I was first learning to wrench a couple years ago. J.J. Why is the spark plug just spinning like that? )

Can't you just convert inch lbs to ft lbs? Seems to me that it would end up somthing like 7-15 ft lbs. Which is just about right for a spark plug.

Yes, but most don't go low enough. I think mine starts at like 10 or 15 ft lbs so not really useful. :D
