Was talking to a buddy of mine with a newer Crewcab V10 and he was bitching about the $2200 bill he just had to foot because a sparkplug blew out of his V10. There were 2 other V10's there getting the same thing fixed. From what his service manager told him Ford knows about the problem but to his knowledge won't issue a TSB because they don't want to be held accountable for the problem. His has 65,000 or so on it. There were another 3 loose plugs that they tightened. They had to replace the entire head because Ford would not let them helicoil it something to do with the fact that it has aluminum heads or something.

Check your plugs!!

I searched here and didn't see anything, hopefully this will keep someone from getting a similar bill.

I cross posted this in the Tow Forum also.

You get 5 extra points for being smart enough to buy a diesel, but they get taken away cause you still bought a FORD! :flipoff2:

He said that they were loose (like removable with your hand loose) and the one that blew out they assumed rattled around enough to ruin the threads and blew out. The hole was clean no threads left.

Maybe all those loose plugs is why they get 5 MPG loaded. :flipoff2:

I don't know about you MattS:flipoff2:

But compared to steel heads don't aluminum threads require a lot less torque because if too much torque was applied, wont the threads in aluminum heads strip? anyone should check the torque specs before tighting the plugs.

You must be an engineer to have deduced that. :flipoff2:

I just called and got the specs for all your lazy fawkers.

71-106 Inch pounds of tq they should be cranked to. Now everyone has to go buy a tq wrench in inch pounds. :D

Eric

He followed me over since I'm a ford owner now. Sorry. I'll be sure to erase my tracks so he can't follow next time. :p
