Reasonably sure that's not the same Jeep.....the cage goes into the cowl where the windshield would normally sit on the one I posted....rear shock tie in to the cage is different, hip bar is lower on your's, link set up is different, etc.

Anyone else?

Nope not his either. Tim has 40s Creepys on Allied with Clayton LA and coils, homemade tube fenders and highline.

if its a local Arizona rig you may want to post up same question on AVJC (Arizona Virtual Jeep Club)

that one is Forest Green, my Tj is Emerald Green with same tan interior and will end up similer to that, glad I saw this pic.

I love the way the back of the cage is, I so want to build mine that way but I'm keeping back seat, I may do it anyways and just kick out any rear riders when things get hairy :shaking:

if it is in the Phoenix area, I knew of a jeep that was built a bit different as far as bumpers, wheels and tires etc.

but he had the same cage, colors and style, his name is Aaron and he worked at off road unlimited in Scottsdale for a long time, it used to have a lot Toys by Troy stuff on it (its been over 7 yrs, but things evolve)

I just remember the clean design of the cage and above pic is what I remember

That doesn't really look like a Phx yard though. (I'm in Mesa). :)

Specs please. any front/rear views?

I take it TDW is the owners initials? or is this the shop that built?

anyway, not important. Thats a sweet clean looking TJ. are those 42's? Will the windshield bolt back up?

I think they mean his screen name is TDW.

I just wanted to see what the Jeep looked like.....the pics helped a bunch.

I'm contemplating buying a Jeep to build up and I like some of the things I see on this one....the overall proportions, parts of the cage design, etc.

I'll have to do a search to find out about the build up (assuming he has one). I'm particularly interested in his cage where it comes down to the cowl. I'm wondering if he can still fit a factory windshield as I like the look, but want to retain the factory windshield.....even if I have to cut the inner walls of the frame uprights to recess the tubing into it.

This will be my first Jeep....I've owned/wheeled mostly Toyotas previously before building my buggy....so just seeing how a 3 link will fit and how the rear frame had to be cut in order to fit the air shocks in this example have me curious. Not sure exactly what I'm getting myself into, but it seems like it'll be a fun project.

Sean, from what I can tell and owning and building on TJ's since 1996, the A pillar bars look very close to to have a windshield, but photos are deceiving

you can build a cage close though, and it will still would look good, I wouldn't try skinning the frame unless you run plexy, also if you want to run a factory soft top, the latches are in the header bar area and need clearance

also, an option for good looks an function is to lay back the A pillar bars more then the windshield (looks better w/o WS)

try to build a 4 link front if you can, on the rear I'm in the middle of it now and I have a lot to work around (16" travel air shocks, keeping factory rear seat and soft top)

Ya, I plan to lean it back farther than normal and I think I have a way to make the tops still fit.

Why 4 link the front? I'm not planning full hydro on this build....it will be street driven. My impression was that a XX 4 link would have bump steer and a 3 link with panhard (matched to the angle on the tie rod) would be better on road. Also, fitting a 4 link is just more problematic unless I go with a Rubicon Express type Y shaped lower arm from what I can tell.

Do you say not to skin the windsheild frame b/c of the weight issue with glass? What if I can skin it and still attach the top to the cage via a few flange mounts?

In the rear, I'll do a XX 4 link.....I'll build a cell for behind the rear seat like I did for my buddy's Tj. That should free up some room.

Thanks for the offer of checking out your build.....I may have to take you up on that....but I have to get the Jeep first. ;)

Thanks again,
Sean

sorry Sean this one got lost till I started searching something else:homer:

PM me if your in the Fountain Hills area.

anyway if it still applies...

on the windshield, if you use normal DOT safety glass and the frame flexes to much (when skinned) it may crack much easer IMO, also the weight could be an issue like if you fold it down, one person lifting on one side it will flex and likely crack, look up "speed glass"

on four link in front, a triangulated 4 link would not work well with a track bar, correct. but a non tri 4 link will work although not sure if worth the trouble vs just building a three link strong enough, used to be just one upper link was to risky because if a bracket, end, etc. fails your suspension/axle would likely rotate break/bend other things and completely collapse, but plenty of guy build and beat them
