: Decent Tow Rig??

I just bought a 1977 GMC 1 Ton Camper Special, quad cab, dually. It has a 454 with about 200,000 miles on it but it runs great and doesnt smoke, a 2 year old turbo 400 (new not rebuilt), new alternator, new starter, new battery, new alternator, trailer brake controller and a class IV hitch. I bought it because I couldnt pass up the deal, I bought the truck for $100 and drove it home. However it is pretty rusty. I am wonder if it is worth my trouble to fix it up and use it as a tow rig. I tow my YJ with my ZJ right now, and it works good, but it would be nice to have something bigger. I had thought about fixing the rust and running it the way it is, or, since it has an 8 ft bed, ripping the body off of it, putting a regular cab on it, and building a flat bed for it to haul my Jeep on, then I could pull my trailer behind that and haul tow Jeeps at once. You guys have much more experience than I do, is it worth fixing up and using or should I just sell it and make a little money off of it. Let me know.

Definately worth keeping and using for that price!

As far as modifying/fixing it - you gotta make a judgement call on that one.

Personally - I would keep the quad cab - all that room ROCKS. Build a flatbed for it (keep it reasonably light) and juse it to tow your trailer with.

Definitely worth hangin' onto. And the good news is that pretty much anything that COULD go wrong on that truck will be relatively cheap to fix. I'd make sure the mechanicals were in order & then start towing. You can always worry 'bout the body later.
