Three of my friends are making their first 'Con trip, without guides, and I'd love it if anyone who runs across them, gives them any heads up, or guidance if possible.

Nick Repanich, (N6RCJ), a red 66 CJ5, Tom Rosenow, (KI6YNR,) a blue FJ-40, and Todd Dahleen, (N3HTD), a brown MB on Toyota everything else.

I should be with them, but alas, didn't happen.

Friday: Wentworth to Springs, Saturday: Springs to Tahoe staging and back to Springs, and Sunday: Springs to Loon spillway, and back to tow rigs at Airport Flat.

All are relative old-school, but set up for all but LS, and have enough parts, gear, equipment and recovery stuff, but might love trail info, highlights, views, and any other things that we all love so much about the area..

Give them a shout out, if you run across them, and say Ken wishes he were there.

Thanks,

Ken

Thanks, Uzi, but none are neophytes to good / proper trail behavior or what's right on other trails, including all in that post and thread.... and have read it, and been "schooled" by me before leaving town.

That isn't what I was seeking, but more to the neat places surrounding the ~50 feet of trail, and to let them know, they are not alone on the trail.

Thanks, tho', even though they left yesterday.

No one forgets their first time. My first run was with a group assembled from at least three states. None of us had done it before. More in common with the rigs than each other :( We went through conventional, Loon to Tahoe, one way, street rigs. There was Gatekeeper then. I lost 8 lbs in the three days. So they Woke up at Buck Island or the Springs this morning. A really great way to start the day. Wheel on friends !!

edit: Friends of High Lakes. Do you know Steve L or Luis S. ??

My first time, I was in junior high and barely remember it. I know the girl I was supposed to be with got mad because I met another girl. Other than that, it was a bumpy ride in the back of a Rover.

For me, it took being an adult to appreciate it fully.

We did have a grand time. We started by staying at Airport Flat CG, and did some fishing before dinner.

Then Friday the bowl. Good thing for those reflectors.

Then apparently we missed the Granite Slab bypass and ended up in what we found out later to be the old Big Sluice? And found out why there is a bypass.

But finally made it to camp at Rubicon Springs all intact except for a bent front license plate and a bit of low hanging body steel in a different spot.

Ran out of hooch on Sat. night, but some guys in another group saved us. Maybe we'll meet up with them again.

We were planning on doing Cadillac Hill on Saturday and driving back across on Sunday, but decided against pushing our luck with our old iron. So we fished the Rubicon River on Sat, and drove around through Tahoe on Sunday. I can see why everyone works so hard to protect that trail.

Looks like you guys did fine without a local guide, but still wish we could have made the run with you.

That would not have happened if we were there:D
