: Auto to Manual

I have been toying with the idea of just swapping a t-18 or t19 into my Scout II in place of the auto. What changes would I notice as far as driveability and power goes? Would it be geared lower or would I actually be losing lower gearing with the swap???

Anybody ever attached a sm 420 or 465 to an IH v-8 or is the t19 a better swap?

I'm bored...flame on!!! :flipoff2:

you can buy my t-19 wide! Actually i have no info on this, but i was wondering about going to an Auto and see how that is compared to a manual...never wheeled with an Auto before. Anyone have firsthand experience between the two?? Also how about a very nice torque converter Auto compared to a Granny Low manual??.....as far as low end torque and gearing??

I have wheeled both.

I like my manual for it's simplicity & reliability.

However, an auto with a cooler and low gearing either in the t-case or axles will make wheeling a whole lot easier. It almost takes the fun out of it.

My blue Scout will be an auto when I actually build it up.

AAAGGG!!!

not this subject again:eek:

isn't there enough in the arcives to answer that?

I like my stick, others like their autos, both are good, both are bad.

gearing is good no mater what you shift with, and there is not "one has more effective gearing that the other", it more like one controls the other different.

I went 727 to t19c to 727.
Lost power (acceleration) with the auto although gained a bit with the with the gear shifting.
Much easyer on the street with a locker in the rear.
Over all easyer to drive.
Gearing seem to about the same.
When I did the auto up I put low stall t/c, twin oil coolers, had park/neutral switch disconnected so it’ll starting gear, an extra a vacuum tank in case it stall on a hill to give an extra couple of pumps of the breaks and shift kit

I went from T727 to close ratio T-19 and it felt like a totally different truck, much greater acceleration. It just doesnt soak up as much power. It crawls a little better because I have compression braking now. This is in my daily driver though, so I was thinking more from a street driven perspective. My off road truck is going to stay an automatic, I think it may give a little cushion to the rest of the drivetrain.
