I scored a front axle today, BOM on it is 603706....

Patooyee's page or Dana doesn't have it listed.

I have a feeling that it's one of those 'older' type axles.... Any help?

TIA

Well, now if i told you all that what good is give you the BOM?

It's a Dana 44, Chevy I believe. It has flat tops, (open knuckle :flipoff2: )

Just trying to find out what year, and if it's a "HD-D44" The tubes on it look pretty damn thick from what I can see.

I paid 30 bucks for it.

Probably a 10 bolt front axle used from the late 70's till 86

I think I can tell the difference between a 10 bolt and a dana 44

Chevy Dana 44 will be spring-over, passenger pig, Jeeps were all spring under, Fords were (obviously) Driver's diff, Dodge's were similar to Chevy's, but had funky hubs. I assume that it is missing the hubs or is eight lug if you were unsure if it's a Chevy axle. Dana 44 HD 8-luggers usually had the external type hubs, with either a flat plate with six 3/8" bolts and a small cap in the middle for a drive flange, or those HUGE spicer lockouts. Many early Chevy Dana 44's had 260x joints, even a few HD's I've seen but who knows if they were unmolested or not. Yank one shaft out and measure the tube ID, about 1.75" ID is HD tube, if the shaft tapers quite a bit in the middle, double check the joint size, it's probably a 260x.

I would hope that you could, and 10-bolts never had flat-tops on both ends.

4bangler....

Thanks for the help man.

I guess I'll continue to fill in the blanks. (I was really hopin someone would have the BOM and go ' Shit, that's a D44 front, out of a blah, blah, blah.....)

Anyway, it's spring over, passenger side. It's just the housing, with the outer knuckles. No hubs, brakes, or shafts. (I'm gonna throw dutchmans and CTM's in it anyway, so the fact that it doesn't have shafts didn't matter to me)

I think that the big ole '44' stamped on the webbing was a good clue that it is a 44 :flipoff2: But, just for GP's, I was hoping for the BOM verification of what it came out of. (For shit's and giggles)

Well fine then take all the fun out of it by wanting to use the BOM, well it's a '76, from a thread linked in the "flat-top knuckles" thread on this very page...
