Hey all, Im getting all the crap ready to get my SOA done, and Im looking into moving my front axle forward about 4" or so. Does anyone have any pics of how they extended thier steering shaft? I really don't want to have to pay for a new steering shaft, but I will if needed. Thanks in advance, oh yeah, I did search :flipoff2:

Check www.rockskullz.com under matts project. I moved mine forward about 4-5 in. and just used a crossover steering that way I didnt have to move the P.S. pump. All the clearances worked fine.

Matt,
I don't know if you recognize me, but Im a regular on the rockskullz board... Ive seen your project.. The problem is, Im running a D30 front, and until I can afford a D44 front, I gotta do something with the steering on that.. and I can't do hi steer. :(

Actually you can do high steer to a 30. Get a U.S. passenger side WJ knuckle and an australian/UK driverside WJ knuckle, and build some DOM steering links. That has to be easier than moving the PS box..ect..ect..
To move that darn thing up just use waggy springs like everyone else.

Alex,
thanks for the idea! Thats awesome! I am going to use waggy springs, but that only gives me 2" more wheelbase, and if Im gonna do it, I wanna do it right :). I may just wait till I can get a 44 front in.

I think an XJ shaft may be a bit longer...i'v got one loose in the garage that i'll measure come morning.
I assume your talking about a YJ here?
mfg4rox...any idea on cost for those knuckles? And a dealer stateside should be able to order the export knuckle?

I actually think the stock shaft works fine since you keep the spindle from your YJ parts and bolt it to the new knuckles....I think.
Never actually done this, but its on my list of things todo....:D
So no, I don't yet know of any dealers in the US.
If I find out though, I will post it here.
