what changes were amde on the 196 from a 80 to a 196 from a sII?

My carb is shooting craps and I found one off of another 196 that was in an 80. the one I picked up looks like a 1904, 1960, 1908 series holley and the one I haev looks like a 194X series...

they are both one barrell.......will teh older one bolt up or can I mix and match parts between teh 2 to get one good working carb?

I need to start this job by 11 am tomorrow and NEED to be on teh road by saturday at 5 am.....

first of all.....I am going to a V-8 within a month if I decide not to sell this pos.....this is the second time this truck has broken down on me in less than month. Jeez....this is starting to make my old Jeep look extremely reliable!!! :flipoff2:

second......How much would shipping on that carb be to 80526? shoot me an e-mail as soon as you get this because I am extremely interested to say the least!!!!!!!

but the question is....if I rebuild teh older carb, will it bolt up to the newer 196? Were there changes made to the 196 in the few years it wasn't offered?

time to log off, I get to have a root canal tomorrow morning in roughly 5 hours, then I get to try and hav my truck up and running by tomorrow night by mixing and matching peices from teh 2 carbs to see if I can come up with a solution that will last me long enough to get the one from iscout62.

I'll check back tomorrow and let ya'all know if I am in agony or not...(hell, I'm driving a 4 cyl binder, of course I am in agony....damn I need a v-8 :D )

The only agony you should be feeling is from driving that little 4 banger. My root canal did not hurt at all....

of course, right now I am not even in agony from either! hooper, you were right about teh root canal.

I attempted to tear down and rebuild the carb and failed miserably, therefore am not even driving a 4 cyl scout at the moment.

Iscout, you've got mail!
