: MMMMM it's arrived!!!!
Jason M 09-19-2002, 09:17 PM My present from Down under is in town and should be in this weekend!!!
(plus Marlin should be shipping my SMmini adapter on monday!!!)
Things are finally coming together!!!
texican 09-19-2002, 09:54 PM Mace you may soon be the first one in North America to have thrown a 2F rod completely thru the fenderwell.....:nuke: :flipoff2:
Butch
Jason M 09-19-2002, 09:57 PM Yeah, but it will be a Ton of fun in the process ;)
Besides, how cool will it be if it holds up??
texican 09-19-2002, 10:03 PM Reminds me of something Grandpa once told me, I inherited an old Studebaker pickup from him, I was fooling around one day and found a set of chrome wheels that fit it.....I was real proud of them and he looks it over, and said, "Boy that's kinda like putting a racing saddle on a jackass...."
:flipoff2:
Butch
Jason M 09-19-2002, 10:11 PM Good idea,
Now all I gotta do is put that ropin' saddle that I found on a pic of you
:flipoff2:
(I know I am trying to spit shine a turd, but I like the turd ;) )
texican 09-19-2002, 10:19 PM Well I was gonna invite you to a wrenchin' beer drinkin' party this weekend, Nolen, Kristie, and a few of the guys you know are comin' up here to help me get the FJ45 going.............
Sounds like you are gonna be swingin wrenchs there.
I saw the title of your post and thought the baby was here, whens the due date?
Butch
Jason M 09-19-2002, 10:24 PM :(
Dam, that would be a good time. But I have to get my junk going before I fly to TX to wrench with you. I have to make sure that Nolen eats his words on my cruiser runing before the farmington event.
That 45 is too cool...
Baby is due April 5th.
We find out the 30th if it is a boy or girl (hopefully)
I can't wait!!!!!
The baby and Ann are some of the coolest things ever to happen in my life!
:D

Let me guess
The original Brewer of shiner bock huh.. :)
It is funny,
I have been to texas a few times. Hated it every time. But you guys are actually making me wonder if it is a bad as I thought :)
texican 09-19-2002, 10:47 PM You were just in the wrong part of Texas....and not surrounded by a bunch of like minded idiots like us
Robert Earl Keene, lots of artists have recorded his stuff, thisone by the Highwaymen (Johnny Cash, Waylon, Willie etc) still playssmall clubs a lot, could give a shit whether anyone but those who come to see him live, like him.
Didn't you notice several of the trucks at Moab had "REK" decals on them? That's his logo.
Butch:flipoff2:
trd55 09-19-2002, 11:34 PM I still like the shirt that REK had a few years ago
Texas license plate
"RHP 997"
You are making me miss Texas so much talking about our great music scene. Seem like evertime I go and visit (usually my sister's house in San Antonio) somebody (REK, Pat Greene, Charlie Robison, Jack Ingram, etc.) is playing at somewhere ( Flores', Lukenbach(spelling), Gruen, etc. and I can't go and see them for some reason or another. :( Makes me sad when I think about being back in Texas, and figuring out how to get back there. Oh well it will happen sone enough, I hope. Putting in my time with my company. My be I'll quit and start my own... hmmm..
wngrog 09-20-2002, 04:13 AM Mace,
We have a guy around here named Shane that has hopped his 2F up and runs sand dunes with it using aviation fuel.
He constantly runs his at 5000 RPM....with a block like that, the 2F should perform awesome with that Turbo.....
All I know is your ass won't have it running in 3 weeks :D

Yeah, what he said, you spend too much time here to get it ready before Farmington! Now step away from the keyboard.......

Bwahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha........
The Champ SPEAKS!
BJ On Roids 09-20-2002, 02:34 PM good to see you got it...ive been emailing you and had no response, i wondered what was UP....
maybe you just aren't at work.....
well the block and stuff should hold up, unless you go silly.....and why not, boat anchors complete run you around $100 over here.......
:flipoff2:
get given them if you have some mates swapping them out....BUT the condition is normally pretty poor
these engines will stand some abuse with the right setup
lets see some 38" swamper smoke
i got a pic of mine baggin up 4 on the rocks!!
that is AWESOME news, just install it and run it till it blows....
ill bet its fun taking the old manifold off? (rusted to the head) they normally are....
BJ On Roids 09-20-2002, 02:44 PM awesome...
even if you don't finish it off, just go and wheel some half finished junk (i always do)
Jason M 09-20-2002, 04:33 PM :flipoff2:
I have been working my ass off on the rig.
Hey BJ have you ever tried to spin a turbo by hand?
This one spins reasonably but will not continue spinning.
Do you think I have to rebuild it??
Also, what I believe is the bypass that manages how much boost you get to the motor has a threaded hole in the end of it. It is the only place that I can think of that would have a control knob for adjusting the boost. Think I can just put a new bolt in it?
I was running a header. And NOTHING rusts round here ;)
If it can smoke all 4 I will get a pic of it!

try and wobble it around, make sure there is no play in the bearing, spins reasonably? more info
if it conitnues to spin it would have to be roll bearing type (which yours isn't) so no stress.... if it spins fairly freely, and there is no float/play in the bearing/support for the shaft then you are golden (by none, you get a small fraction, but ahh its easy you'll figure it out)
NO you don't have to rebuild it! (i hope) the guy guaranteed me its good... and if the bearings are good there aint much that can go wrong :D
got a pic of this threaded hole a location, like where it is?
is it on the exhaust side...a bypass....blow off valve possibly?
or maybe a boost guage port?
where on the picture is it?
WAAAAAAAAPPP
TISHOOOOO
(your landcruiser caught a cold)
BJ On Roids 09-20-2002, 05:26 PM nothing rusts?
cool there'd be some awesome cruisers out there then!!
oh...and if you roll it too
GET PICS!!! :flipoff2:

FIND A JEEP WITH A 350 IN IT OR SOMETHING. CHAIN THEM TOGETHER IN 4X4 AND GIVE IT DEATH, I SAW A COVER OF A MOTOR TREND? A YEAR OR 2 AGO THAT HAD A EXPEDITION AND A SUBURBAN CHAINED UP BOTH SMOKING ALL 4. IT'S WAY REDNECK BUT THAT COVER WAS COOL!

WHOOPS :flipoff2:
my redneck?
i nearly got myself killed doing that the other week, imagine a 2000 kilogram short wheelbase with 6 people in the back
getting hauled backwards at full noise...by a F250 super duty...yeah i was sitting in the back....until the snatch-um strap broke...thankfully too..it probably saved our lives:p
ROFL
stupidity....but boy we had some fun at the tractor pulls

Okay, sounds like it is good then. It really would not be hard to take it off after installing it anyway. .
Here is a pic of where the bolt would go..
I believe that it is the bypass. And that threaded bolt would change what pressure it was when the bypass would actuate :)
BJ On Roids 09-21-2002, 03:42 PM interesting idea....maybe he had like an in-cab boost controller
my ex-flatmate had that in his minitruck, he would sit there beside you, grin at you and turn it up :D and try and leave you behind!!
ROFL
yeah could be a blow off valve, ive never had any experience with them...sorry.....i will have to look into it
sounds like you may have figured it out though
hey you might do well to get a boost guage and monitor what pressure you are running, on a fresh engine you should be able to run a fair bit... considering your compression ratio is down a bit on what i run......
Stupid frnch jackasS 09-22-2002, 03:13 AM ... Looks like there's another fitting just under the place you pointed the arrow. Could that be another fitting ?
I bet your thread is for a bolt to adjust the preload spring on the wastegate. Your turbo looks pretty old-style, and I very much doubt doubt it had an electronic vac. boost controller. So you have to adjust the boost manually somehow, and since I can't sse no other way to adjust the wastegate setting, that must be it. The other fitting lower on the right could be a vac. sensor which could go just at or after the venturi after the butterfly, but you'll be fine without plumbing it.
If you don't want to waste exhaust boost at low revs, you could consider adding a g-valve at the wastegate pressure sensor, so that it doesn't open until the max. setup boost is achived. If you want to have an adjustable boost, just add an adjustable bleed valve in the cab. You could also add some fancy stuff such as a switch on the throttle, so that you bleed valve (or g-valve) only acts when you floor it. Then you can have full boost when you floor it, but still have a smooth operation otherwise...
What max. boost will you set it up at ? Will you lower your compression, too ?
Good luck, :flipoff2:
Stupid frnch jackasS 09-22-2002, 03:22 AM Almost forgot... You may want to add a blowoff valve on the intake pipe after the turbo. When you lift the foot off the throttle, your butterfly will close suddenly while the turbo will keep spinning. The intake pressure would climb pretty high, which would later cause the tubo to stop spinning at once, which will cause premature wear.
Unlike many, I think a properly setup tubo can work well for a looong time. Just do it right... :flipoff2:
Make sure your oil is clean, and you don't kill the engine while the tubo's still spinning, cause when your bearings are worn, and the shaft gets loose, then break, that's really bad news for your engine... :nuke:
Jason M 09-24-2002, 07:05 AM That "other fitting" is actually the coolant return line. it does not connect to the bypass. Just a simple threaded hole. I mpretty sure that it is for boost control. Which menas that with it missing it is set for MAXIMUM BOOST!!!
;)
:nuke:
