I have been searching for awile on the 4.7 v8 in the newer runnahs with no luck. Found 100+ threads on 3.4 though.

Im looking at getting rid of my wifes daily driver (2006 Dodge magnum srt8 pumped to 500hp) and getting a 2000+ 4runner.

The goal is to have the ultimate grocrey getter. Want it to be super stable at highspeeds and still be capable on the trail.

If you guys had to decide between afactory equipped runner with a 4.7 or a 3.4 what would you get? Keep in mind we will be using the stock Auto tranny.

Build will consist of
-linked with coilovers
-Diamond front axle stock rear with elocker
-Chopped top simmilar to mossyrocks :D
-duals
-37 Mtrs
-Airbags to help level height out with camping gear or towing.

With that build setup do you think either engine would be able to tow a 16' dual axle w/ elec brakes. With a 3800lbs buggy?

I havent sold the magnum yet and im already looking for a runner:D. Cant wait for the heated seats in the winter time. :grinpimp:

No. Exos are ugly. Just a internal on this one. :flipoff2:

Edit: I found a 2004 with the v8. Im going to go test drive it tonight. Maybe buy it if i can get some answers quick. :grinpimp:

id keep that v8 4runner long travel ifs..total chaos, icon, swayaway, etc...those things are nice and get decent gas mileage(20 hwy if youre not flooring it all the time). i would totally buy one for a daily driver if i was employed:rasta:wish the wife would...

Just test drove the runner and i wasnt overly impressed with the 4.7. I still want to drive a supercharged 3rz to compare but it wasnt as fun as i thought it would be.

How does the long travel ifs hold up to serious rock crawling? it would be a cool option though.

Some inspiration for my build

That was my blue 4Runner. It was literally painted 10 minutes before that pic

Ive flat towed a Tacoma behind my 3.4L manual tranny Tacoma and it did alright. Needed trailer brakes for sure.

There is a guy on this board that tows his buggy behind his Taco all over the place. It may have a SC?? I cant remember his screen name, but search Tacoma towing and youll find it.

Towing with my Tundta is 100x better. The 4.7L isnt a 454 or anything but I run 75 just fine and the brakes are way better. I deffinlty wouldnt tow anything too heavy behind a 3.4l and automatic!!! Ive seen people towing bass boats kill those trannies.

FWIW, in '05 the 4.7L got about 40 more hp and an extra gear in the tranny.
First year of crewcab too.
