: Rear swingout tire carrier
zooki guy 09-19-2002, 10:58 PM Just tried to do a search and came up with nothing. Started building a rear bumper today and I need some ideas. I have the bumper complete, but need ideas on how to design a swingout rear tire carrier. Mounting it to the bumper and how to lock it from swinging open. Any pics would be great.
Thanks and:flipoff2:
Shrock 09-19-2002, 11:44 PM Search the whole board. There is many hours of reading out there on this subject.
Here's one from this forum:

zooki guy 09-20-2002, 07:28 AM I did see that topic when I searched. I will try searching other forums but if anyone has some pictures to post that would be great.
thanks
Rudezuk 09-20-2002, 07:29 AM Do a search for my name and a bumper.....

Shrock has already posted that link. Your bumper looks good but I was thinking something a little different. Just trying to get some more ideas.
thanks

WTF? Your going to get nothing but a thrashing if you don't at least tell us wtf is going inside your brain:shaking:
Do you want tube? Do you want Square? I mean throw us a bone man.
Bill4rest 09-20-2002, 08:27 AM Square with swing, with a 16* tire tilt
Bill4rest 09-20-2002, 08:28 AM Tube bumper....nothing fancy, and you could adapt a swing to it
Bill4rest 09-20-2002, 08:31 AM Another bumper/swing I made, yes it's for a TJ but same concept.
No lights, 16* tire tilt
zooki guy 09-20-2002, 08:42 AM Tube or square. The TJ bumper looks good. Want to mount the high lift on it also. Thanks for the pics Bill.
Do you have anymore of the Suzuki in the first pic?

Yep click on my WWW button
and one more since you said Hi-lift,one I made for a YJ, yes it's a YJ but then again..it's still the same concept:D
Lziffle73 09-20-2002, 09:45 AM I am in the middle of making my own rear bumper also. I have it done but I am trying to figure out how to mount the thing. I am running Breeze drop shackles and it is really limiting my mounting options. What is the most common mounting points. I have two mounts already done to the body mount bolts but I am wondering how to attatch it at the frame.
Rudezuk 09-20-2002, 10:03 AM Here is a better one with it on the rig...
billj 09-20-2002, 10:12 AM Not meaning to get off the subject, but......
WTF did you do to trash that spare tire so badly, bill4rest?!?!?!?

I mounted it to the upper body mounts and the two holes on either side of the frame. Made up plates and tacked nuts to the plates and then tacked it to the frame. I also have breeze drop links and they clear find.

What'a talking about:confused: It's custom for Off-road "low" air pressure:D Naw the tire let go while I was flat towing it back from the Con, get this, It blew 10 miles from home:eek:
For mounting points on Samurai's.....
I mostly mount them to the four holes under the frame (where the tow thingy went) and then I sleeve the tube cross member with a 1 5/8" tube, Capped and a nut welded inside. I don't like the body mount, it just seems too fuzzy of a mounting point too me.
Lziffle73 09-20-2002, 10:58 AM That's what I was thinking also. Thing is, the breeze's hit the bolt heads there at the four factory holes. I was trying to avoid that but I guess I really don't have an option. With a welder and grinder anything can be made to work I guess. :D

Well what I did when I had crappy links was I made a little bumpstop to fit over the bolts.
zooki guy 09-20-2002, 12:05 PM Take the factory trailer hitch off and your bolts wont hit. I have loads of clearance from the bottom of the bumper to the links.
jones 09-20-2002, 12:52 PM Definatley remove the trailer hitch.:D
jones 09-20-2002, 01:05 PM Hey zooki guy, if you used your http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/images/elite.gif and posted pics of what you have done so far, you'd probley get some better advice.:D

Have not mounted it yet. Bumper looks sweet though. Take pics when it is painted and mounted.
Are we going to do yours next??
jones 09-20-2002, 03:49 PM OK:D
Lziffle73 09-21-2002, 04:31 AM That darn hitch was doing an ok job until last week when my buddy blew up his optima, literally, and I had to pull his heavy steel plated to the hilt cj7 out of a trail. Took me, another zuk and a yj to get his ass out, heavy bastard. My hitch was tweaked really bad, almost straight back. Anyways, I'll get it bolted up there one way or another. Been debating on removing them missing links for a while now, might just have to do it.
