i bought a clutch replacement kit for jens 97 5 speed tj last year (never installed) and have since then purchased a 2002 5 speed tranny from a donor TJ with low mileage.

The clutch kit i purchased indicates 92 - 06 years. does this mean it will fit the 2002 5 speed even though its a later and different model tranny than i have in the 97 TJ?

thanks for your help, id like to install this over the weekend so a quick response would be helpful.

it sure looks the same diameter and size but before i tear into this id like some clue...

im tearing into this tomorrow, sure would like someone to give me some direction before i get started. I posted in the non-hardcore section but i guess its to hard a question to get answered there. ?????

thanks in advanced !

it should be fine as long as the clutch is for the same trans you origonaly purchased it for, if im not mistakin its a ax15 for the 4.0L and ax5 for the 2.5L im not sure if the clutch will interchange between the two trans'es but i dout they do:flipoff2: and this should be posted in the non hardcore section:shaking:

and this is why i use pirate rarely, idiot responses like this one.

if you read my post, or maybe you did?? youd see that i posted this in the non hardcore already with no response and that you did nothing to answer my question.. pull your Hardcore head out of your ass and get over yourself cause you dont know anymore than i do.

what a crock... LOL

first off not to be a dick but what motor did you/do you have? what transmission did you/ do you have? if you are able to do the swap you should be able to identify and tell use models and not just years. and one last thing you don't the old transmission out to compare clutches? here's what i got. i pulled my hardcore head out of my hardcore ass:flipoff2:

5 min on novak-adapt.com gave me this

ax-5
The input shaft is a 14 spline and its stickout length is 7-1/2".

ax-15
The input shaft is a 10 spline x 1-1/8" and its stickout length is 7-1/2".

NV3550

Spline count for the input shaft is 10 splines x 1-1/8" diameter

so it looks like the 2.5 ax-5 is out but a possibility on the ax-15 and nv3550 interchanging. you just gotta see if you can find the overall diameter. one check on quadratec and they have two seperate listings for 95-99 and 00-04 but no specific mentioning of transmission so i'd say pull the trigger and try the one you've got accroding to novak the nv3550 is factory direct swap with all 4.0's.

EDIT: read this directions on what you wanna do
http://www.jeepaholics.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=43336
no mention of needing different clutch just a new one for the swap.

thanks, this helps.

and i really dont know what tranny i have, but im working on identifying it, your measurements help and ill see if i can get it from there.

i think what i have is an ax-15 in my 97 with a 4.0 and the tranny i have is an ax-15 also but was told it is something else that would work.

it came with a clutch and thats how i assume its the same as the kit.

this might answer my question

"did the 97 tj and the 2002 tj 4.0 both have the 5speed ax-15 behind them and no other 5 speed offered?"

someone told me the 2002 was different and thats what i based all this on.

sorry to be an ass but i am as ignorant as it seems.

just being frustrated as i just switch components without much knowledge.

From 2000 on the 4.0 Wrangler was backed by the NV3550.

make sure and check crank sensor locations, I think they may be different, but not positive. I'm not real up on the cheerleader jeeps. :flipoff2:

Are you sure the tranny you bought is from 05? It would NOT be an ax-15 if it is an 05 tranny. If you do in fact have 2 ax-15s then you shouldnt even have to ask the question. They are the same trannys. Also, the clutch will work between the ax-15 and nv3550 which are the 2 trannys that you should have.

ok then im getting somewhere !!! this does appear to be the nv3550 from what my research has produced. would an ax-15 clutch kit fit a nv-3550?

thanks guys ! and if not why would the kit be marked like this?

Reread my post. The clutches are interchangeable. If you want call AA or Novak to make sure.
