: New 9" and Super 14 housing designs -

New bump formed design provides rigidity and high clearance. Unique X-plate design helps to transfer and distribute forces more evenly and increases overall strength. Machined flat after welding to assure a perfect seal, flatness and ring gear location every time. Stud holes are drilled and tapped in a CNC machine for perfect alignment that is not effected by housing warp during the welding procedure.

Overall this housing was designed and built in a very short time frame, but due to the high precision equipment at Ballistic Fabrication, the housings went together seamlessly and without effort. Full-scale production begins immediately and will be available for purchase through Portal-Tek or direct through Ballistic Fabrication.

First 50 housings to ship will receive an additional $75 store credit through Ballistic Fab for use on setting up your new housing (or whatever else you deem necessary)!! We will even honor the deal if puchased through Portal-Tek. Don't expect this deal to last very long!

Can you make a Rear 9" housing with 60 spindles on it?

New 9" and Super 14 housings will be ready for unveiling late next week. If you're in the market for a housing, you'll definitely want to stick around for these. Their official debut will be at the Off-road expo, you you guys always come first :D

Jeff

So when is the "unveiling" I'm in the market for a new 9" and am holding off to see what magic you've created this time!

Can you provide the spindles? We can turn some out but probably wouldn't be totally cost effective unless we had some more interest.

We will officially have a new 9" housing at the Superior Axle booth at the offroad expo, but we unfortunately won't be there to show it off personally... too much catch up work to take time off right now.

Looks a lot like another vendor's housing...

I guess competition is good for the market. Waiting on pricing!

The 'bump form' housing has been very popular in the desert scene for years from good vendors like GMR, Chrisman, Blitzkreig and others, pricing was just too high for the real-world builder... until now.

See pricing above ^^

Why was there a need for a newer design?

Can you pull a dimention for me? I'm looking to make a front axle, and need to know the dimention from the pinion centerline to the end of the housing on the drivers side (or the leftmost stud hole to the end of the center part of the housing).

Need to see if the center part will be narrow enough to be used for my front axle.

DrVic723

3.5" x .250 wall for the first batch, and .375 wall can be ordered custom. We'll likely expand the options as we get settled into the product line. Thanks - Jeff

Think they were after the measurement from the center of the tube to the bottom of the center section.

The previous poster was after left-most stud hole to end of housing, which is 4.269 in that drawing.

Close,

The overall center section is 22.897

I'm looking for the pinion centerline to the left edge.

Looks like its 4.269 from the pinion CL to the leftmost stud, and 6" from the pinion CL to the begining of the axle tube.

I'm looking to see how close I can get the inner knuckle to the pinion, or the minimum distance from the pinion centerline to the inner knuckle if that makes any more sense.

Judging on the rest of the drawing, id expect this dimension to be 10" from the pinion CL to the left edge of the housing.

We're working on a high clearance version to use with the G3 portal boxes from Portal-Tek for this very reason. I'll have Allen get you both dimensions in the morning and you can choose which design will suit you best.

We didn't really like the way the first revision went together, it required too much heat, time and was much more complex. This housing also gave us an additional .75" clearance in most places, and is lighter (actual figures to come).

Do the housings come with spindles on them? If not how much is it to have you guys put them on new of used (stock cut off). I know it's a builder kit but not that many of us have a axle jig as nice as the one you made.:

I know of this guy with a big green circus wagon ZUK-JUICE that needs a blingin' 14B rear... :D

Ryan, Matt can help you with putting the spindle ends on, I am sure.

How much do the hubs and drive flanges weigh, compared to OEM pieces? Will those hubs fit onto a d60 rear with the stock spindles? Just curious to see if I can run what I have now and upgrade piece by piece until I have a whole new blingy 9" under it? :D

Also, can those hubs be used on a front with stock spindles?

Ballistic Eng
10-28-2009, 06:26 PM
these hubs will not fit Dana 60's. They will fit a 14 bolt snout or ours. Weight of the hub is 8.5 lbs and end cap is 3.6 lbs. A bare 14 bolt hub is around 22 Lbs.

On the 9" housing, is there a housing end you'll be producing to fit the larger diameter tube? Only see the former 3" housing ends on your website.
