I have a Dana 44 rearend with an OX and 4.56's in my YJ and there is a high pitch squealing/grinding noise coming from it loud enough to be heard over swampers and soft top noise. any idea what could cause this? I have had the diff cover off and didnt notice anything out of the ordinary(metal filings or abnormal wear on the gears). Could it be bearings? should I try some heavy weight gear oil? I have been driving it for quite some time in this state and the noise has always stayed the same. I swear the noise has disappeared from time to time, but not for very long. what do you guys think? Oh ya, the noise stops at low speeds.

which state does it squeal in?
I find that my gears squal alot on PA, but hardly ever in NJ.
the Tacoma does tend to make more noise south of the Raritan River, tho.

I'm gonna guess that you either had a shop install it or you whipped out the platimum visa and had one delivered from DTD or some such.

why would you even think of bringing something like that here first? why not the seller/installer?

why would I do a search on OX's? I have never hear of them making noise, have you?:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

so when you called DTD about the problem(assumingyou called them before coming here), what did they say?

they said to take it to a shop and have it looked at. what the hell did you think they would say? I guess thats my only option at this point.

Sounds like the Ox might be out of adjustment. That would explain the intermittent nature of the problem anyway. The collar is spinning against the dogs as the diff differentiates.

Just a guess.
