I'm getting prepared to swap my D60 under the front of my 81 Jimmy. Right now it has a 4" lift and a D44 8 lug I swapped in about 5 years ago. I have been told the D60 will either require the front drive shaft to be shortened or the front diff will need to move ahead slightly. If I redrill the perches and move it 1" ahead will my driveshaft be OK?

Chris here from CK5 (Leadfoot).
I'm not sure, but I think several people have used ORD offset (I believe 1") zero rates when installing the front axle (D60) to account for the driveshaft difference from a D44/C10, and also helps keep the tires from hitting the inner fender/firewall. I'm sure the guys here will have more info for ya.
Good Luck with the swap.

I had a 1" driveshaft spacer w/my d44, I removed it when I put in the 60, works fine. Springs are sagged 4" procomps. Not a fan of front zero rates.

well mr. newbie:D ,
when my D60 went under the truck nothing changed. stock DS that had been lengthened when the lift went on. mine was a 6" lift, so that might be the difference right there...

So it sounds like 1" forward would be OK. It should help clear the 39.5's when the time comes too. Thanks guys!:cool2:

If you don't have crossover steering you may not beable to move it that far with out modifying your drag link.

I went 1-1/4" forward with my 60 and 38's and it kept the tires off the firewall while accomodating my existing shaft.
