Looking to Trade my used Norinco 1911, 600 rnds and Serpa Holster for a used Smith And Wesson 586...
Wondering what shooters think of trading a low budget 1911 for a 586...Ammo volume may not be certain yet, depending on quality...
but it's about $550- $600 dollar value for the Norinco kit...

They're both good guns, but you're getting the short end of that trade. The 586 is a fine wheelgun, but it's not worth as much as that pistol and ammo.
Around here the Norinco 1911s fetch about $500 on their own because they are good builders.

If it's something you want to do than do it. But I wouldn't include the ammo. Why not just save up the coin and buy a revolver and keep the 1911?

Well first off the machining quality isn't that great.
Second these guns fetch about $350 brand new Cdn. ($327 USD)
Thirdly, I'm not soooo fond of having a red army 1911, It feels like I cheaped out on a American Classic.
Yea the more I think about it, the Ammo, or all of it is a bit much...I'll see what I can do to sweeten the deal maybe he has .38 or .357 mag ammo kicking around.

I wonder if the newer ones are not of the same quality as the ones that were imported to the US back in the day. It wouldn't surprise me.

This is an older one...the machining appears to be improving from what I've seen of the newer models...
I'm surprised at the Norc support.
I'm leaning more to keeping it now as it was my first handgun I purchased and has some sentimental value...ugly or not...
I may duracoat it...

Not only NO, but HELL NO!
Ammo at todays prices, 600 rds of .45 is worth a good bit, figure $30-40 per hundred, so $180-240 just for the ammo. Add in $30-40 for the holster, and your close to $300 just in add on stuff, not counting the 1911.
Total, I'd guess you're talking about $600-700 worth of trade for a used revolver, no way I'd even consider it, but then again I'm not a revolver fan.
