it saids to use to use the brake rotors and capliers off a 85 chevy k10 pickup and u could have to grind off most of the axle shaft then i found this
http://tharf.com/wordpress/?p=17
so im trying this one and had better luck with this im using rotor off a 98 k1500 and orderd a caplier off a 76 k20 and found out that is for the dana 44 i need help badly i have a temper problem and already spent 600 so far and going broke fast so any help will greatly improve my chances with this and if u need any more info just tell me and will do the best i can
Corey Young 09-30-2009, 09:27 PM Do you still have the rotors from a 85 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup 6 lug FRONT axle? Do they go on the inside or outside of the axle flange? Can you have Virgina 4x4 send you pictures of a completed assembly? Was your axle originally 8lug?
REDDMANIAC 10-01-2009, 04:23 AM It said to use an 1989 rotor. which you then may have to only weld the flange in position.

i dont think he sent me the right kit nuttin wanted to work right had to grind on the capiler bracket and other stuff
REDDMANIAC 10-28-2009, 09:33 AM the arf dude used 89 rotors, but he also had to use the weldon flange, according to his writeup he was told the 14 6lug sf had the flange in several positions thoughout the years. You need to install the calipers with pads onto the caliper bracket and rotor with spacer than the flange and weld the flange on. your caliper brackets will still be removeable.

well the place he got his brackets was black widow performance and they went belly up a few years ago
FrostBite07 10-28-2009, 08:38 PM Not really much help with the brackets you have, but if you get too terribly fed up with it, you can just use brackets and brakes from a late model Silverado. Just need to cut off the old flanges, make new flanges, and weld them onto the axle.

bigtfw2000420 10-29-2009, 04:12 PM thanx but i already have everything i need just the backspacing is wrong and cant return the capilers i bought allready
REDDMANIAC 10-30-2009, 06:16 AM if you cant turn back, weld it already.
bigtfw2000420 10-30-2009, 02:43 PM all i got is a little mig welder from harbor freight
covekrawler 10-31-2009, 01:57 PM bigtfw2000420, the rotor goes on the other side of that axle flange. take a look at this picture:
http://www.virginia4x4.com/6%20lug.jpg
as for the grinding on the calipers please keep in mind you are installing 76 dana 44 front calipers on a 14 bolt semi float 8 lug rear axle most likely from the 80s that you have converted to 6 lug with custom axles. if you had told us you had a temper problem up front we would not have sold you the kit :). i am sorry if you had to grind on those pretty gold calipers.
since you have made so many changes to your setup it is possible that you may still need us to make you a custom set of spacers. our kits are designed for reusing stock components starting with a stock configuration. also i have never used the Dana 44 calipers OR the 98 1500 rotors so i have no idea if they will even work with our bracket...
if you have any other questions don't hesitate to give us a call 540-514-7596. we have helped people stick together some pretty crazy stuff. thats what we are here for.
thanks.

bigtfw2000420 10-31-2009, 02:42 PM ok first off good god u need to resize the pic, two i got my 14bolt sf from a 98 k2500 u can get an 14 bolt sf in 6 and 8 lug on your website it saids that to use 85 chevy 1/2 6 lug brake rotor capiler etc well i was test fitting some old rotor off the front end of my 98 and they almost fit just have to grind down the inside of the rotor and i dont think they had a dana 44 in the front in 85 i could be wrong but yes i do need spacers i do not want to put the rotors on the inside do u know how hard it will be to do brakes on it later on u would have to open the diff and pull out the axle shafts and press out the wheel studs thats over kill and again im not useing dana 44 capilers and my rotors will fit on the outside the only problem im having is that the spacer is different and the capiler bracket that u sent me does not fit and im using 85 half ton 6lug capilers
covekrawler 11-01-2009, 04:46 AM ha! i will resize when i get back to work. i highly do NOT recommend putting the rotors on the outside of the axle flange. for one thing we have never done it with the brackets you purchased. also keep in mind you are installing front rotors on the rear of your truck. this is WAY OVERKILL! your truck will rust away before you ever have to change the rear rotors... or brake pads for that matter although thats only a 10 minute operation.
the rear rotors on my buick regal look like they are 1/8" thick, 177K miles and going strong and i drive it like i stole it.
having said that if you want to make this work with what you have you need to get some calipers (measuring calipers)
http://www.mitutoyo.com/Images%5C002%5C282%5C500-752-10.jpg
give me a very accurate measurement for the required spacer thickness. i'll do the rest.
either way we can make it work. thanks.
covekrawler 11-01-2009, 04:53 AM just a few other thoughts...
if you put the rotors on the outside how do you keep the rotor centered? when they are on the inside of the flange they are well secured in place by pressed in studs. i think the rotor would be sloppy and therefore not perfectly centered. those cone nuts will be on the wheel and won't be much help.
do you still have the 85 10 bolt rotors we say to use on the website? you might be able to save a lot of headache if everything bolts up perfectly when the rotors are on the inside...
bigtfw2000420 11-01-2009, 09:36 AM ok forgive me if this post dont make sence im working off a bad hangover but here goes
first i have done measure with the calipers mine look just like them but from harbor frieght ( i love that store) and i have the measurement written down just too tired to get it right now i will call u monday i think and saying my truck will rust over i have very bad luck with something happening and if i need to change a rotor i would not want to pull off the cover i spend a lot of money on amsoil and having a cover that hold more fuild would not want to lose it and all the work on the rotor is cake got a buddy at oreillys who will cut the inside of the rotor so it will go on the axle shaft i wont grind on the axle shaft i spent too much money on them and they look so pretty lol and please to not compare your regal to my heavy ass truck
here is for the second post u put i dont know how the rotor will not be center as long as its butt up to the axle flange on the outside it will be good and when the tire is on it will be fine trust me on that but i have the measurements for the spacer and when i go outside i will get them
