Ok here is the deal, I have a SBC 350 in my truck. The truck and engine have not run in quite a while. I pulled the oil pan off and replaced the oil pump and cleaned the goo out. Now I am trying to prime the motor using a drill. I am getting good oil flow out of the sender in the back of the block and see the oil moving around the lifters but nothing out the push rods...WTF? Thanks

the pushrods aren't getting oil becuase your lifters aren't pumped up. your lifters pump up by the cam pushing it up against the pushrods. once it's pumped up the oil will then push up through your pushrods and out onto the rocker arms.

IF YOU LOOK AT YOUR DISTRIBUTOR IT HAS LIKE CHAMFERS ON THE SHAFT THAT DROPS IN THE MOTOR.THESE KINDA SEAL UP THE OIL PASSAGE WAYS IN THE MOTOR. WITHOUT THE DISTRIBUTOR IN YOU WILL JUST PRIME THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE MOTOR.
HOPE THIS HELPS

have someone watch your oil preassure guage while you spin the oil pump driveshaft with the drill, if you build oil preassure within about 30 seconds or a minute I'd say go ahead and fire it, what you want to do is pull out the fill plug or the pcv valve and look into the valve cover so that you can see one of the rockers, if they are wet then you are in buisiness.
