When I mount the steering sector on my truck ('72 F-250 w/'78 f-250 sector and a 360FE), I will have about 3/8" of space between the oil filter and the steering gearbox.
The oil filter bracket hangs the oil filter horizontally, so I was wondering if I could replace this bracket with one that bolts directly to the block and turns the filter 90 degrees or something.
There are plenty of aftermarket relocation kits, or brackets that bolt on where the filter would, but none that bolt directly to the block (that I know of...). are there any factory brackets that would accomplish this? or are there any aftermarket ones available that I just haven't been able to find. Thanks in advance.

Can you use the correct 4x4 adapter? It hangs the filter vertically.

You should be able to get a remote filter setup that will spin on just like a normal filter...doesn't bolt to the block at all. Basically its just a shallow plate that spins on instead of the filter with two hoses running from it to your actual filter. Works great, I use one myself.

I saw plenty of those in my searches. Are there any downsides? I know one guy who had one said it was hard to drain all the oil, but he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer...

Nope, just as long as you don't mount the filter in a bizarre spot.

Here are some ebay items you should look at... then buy whatever you want ...

and a remote kit

get what you can afford/makes you happy. I prefer the engine mount as there is less crap to keep away from all the hot/moving parts.
Good luck.

That's the car mount that hangs the filter pointing down.
