I'm looking at putting a set of 40" plus tires on my pickup and I i'm looking for some pointers on fender cutting. I know my trucks not the most beautiful thing in the world. But i'd still like it to turn out well. I dont have any body work experince except replacing complete panels. I have done some floor board work and it turned out well. I didnt have to deal with sweeping curves. I dont want to leave just a sharp edge when Im finished is there a good way to roll it in ?

I did mine just like Totalled posted, have done a couple of rigs that way. Start bending the lip a little at a time all the way around until you get it about 45 degrees, then get it up to 90 degrees with the body hammer. Finish off with the hammer and dolly. It'll turn out looking factory.

i cut mine 1/2 - 3/4" under what i wanted and then rolled with a set pliers. cleaned up with a hammer and dolly

the pass side lookes nice - the drivers side i have a few little kinks you can see, but i was wasted when i did it

i just followed the bend in the fender and it turned out to be a 3 1/2" cut out

And to cover up the rough edges im just goin to use this, its just garden edging from homedepot $9 for a roll, and cut the circular part and use L brackets to attach it to the fenders. It'll make it legal were I live, cover the sharp edge, and also they will flex out of the way if needed.

Be sober*, go slow, and if you want it to look pimptastic roll the lip.

This advice is the boring way to do it, but it will look stock when you are done.

I did mine with the icechest full, they all turned out great except for the last one... i had to re-do it the next day. As the day wore on i think my stool started leaning so i got a little off on the last one. :laughing:

back when I had sheetmetal :lmao: we trimmed my fenders... I was definitely well lubricated and as I found out later, one of the guy's helping turned out to be a tweaker ... he did *nice* work though :D
