it has a manual tranny, and a v8 of some sort. im assuming t18/d20? and 44s? whats the width of the 44s?
also, would the t18/20 combo be a fairly easy swap into a cj?

an "s" on the side?? I think that is short for "60s front and rear"!! <IMG SRC="smilies/idea.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/laughing.gif" border="0">

Seriously though, 44's front and rear, 60.5" front 59"ish rear. yes on the t18/d20. 360 V8. Good donor rig for a CJ. If you don't buy it, tell me where I can go pick it up.

its a cherokee sport thing.. from 78.. those axles are wider than that..
about 66" front and rear.. if its the wide track version.. which i think most of them are.. narrow track.. is about 63"... still good donor.. that t18 will have the long input shaft.. no biggy.. i run one in mine.. cj7.. have a 22" rear drive shaft..
good parts truck

The widetrac axles are in the Cherokee Chief. There are 'S' models in both the cherokee chief and standard cherokee lines.

anything over 60-61" is pushing it for my tastes...i saw something on th board a while back listing the 76-78 cherokee S as: front 59.5 and rear 58.5
even if the axles are wide, im still curious about the tranny/tcase combo. what im asking is, should i assemble a t18/d20 from different sources, for better compatability in a cj? linkage, hydraulics, etc. wish i could word it better!

I think the tranny/tc woudld be worth having. Depending on what engine, the long front shaft could be swapped for a Ford piece to make a shorter package.

Brian, if its not a cherokee chief those axles will be the same width as Jay's. If it is the widetrac cherokee chief, they are still good axles, and you could cut them down.

The clutch in it will be a mechanical linkage. Hydraulic would be much more desirable in a trail jeep. I don't know if the Cherokee mechanical linkage is compatible with a CJ, it would probably depend heavily on what year CJ and what engine you want to run. Regardless, getting that tranny t-case combo would be a good start on whatever you're building.

I don't think building your own hydraulic clutch package would be that big of a deal.

I parted out a 77 wide cherokee and narrowed the axles for my cj, I sold the tranny to a buddy for his cj and it did have the long shaft, so he went to a tranny shop in hermiston and got a kit to change it to a short shaft, cost about 140 bucks
