The slop in my SM465 shifter has reached ridiculous proportions (it's almost impossible to tell when it's in neutral).

Any hints or tips on common culprits before i tear into it? Any replacable wear parts?

problems already bill????:D , i don't know on the chevy trannys, but on zukis, when hte shifter is "slopy" the fit is a bolt that guids the shifter broke, just feplace the bolt with a new one and back to normal....... might be the same, might not, just my $4.72:D

not really a major problem....but most of the Wolf works so damned well, I get to be fussy about things ;)

2 possibilities: :D

1: the pin that holds the tip at very bottom of the shift lever has sheared off.

2: The two pins on either side of the shift tower have backed out, to fix mine I drove them in with a punch and put a small tack weld to keep them from backing out.

poss. 1 - you mean the shift lever is 2 pieces, with the tip held to the rest with a pin?

Poss 2 - what size are those pins in the side, if I should have to replace them?

Yes, if I recall correctly the very tip is held on by a pin, they can break off, not common but it can happen.

The pins on the side of the shift tower are about 3/8" in diameter but they are special, a regular dowl will not work, pull your tranny boot, push down on the cap that goes around the shift lever rotate about a 1/4 turn and you will be able to pull the lever out and see just what I am talking about.

If the pin in the shift handle busts you normally have no gears. If one of the pins in the shift tower busts or walks out you tend to get problems finding gears. If they both back out you tend to have issues getting it into reverse and can almost not find the rest of the gears at all in my experiance. I wrap a hose clamp around the roll pins in mine because no matter what they do they seem to back out.

The other things that where making my SM465 "vague" where the bushing/collar that slips on the pins was worn out and the end of the shifter where i goes into the rails was shot. It may not seem like a big deal but the longer arm of the handle above the tower makes a little play at the bottom a lot in your hand. I just added some weld to mine and ground it to fit, much improvement.

I have a problem shifter here, I will email images to you as webshots has restricted my usage so cannot add more.
area 1 the welds that hold the pivot ball are cracked loose
area 2 the pin that hold the tip is tiny and in a huge hole so it is floppy

its a big hole alright, but the tip isnt loose at all.
